That might be true if it was just another same ol', same ol' poker room. That's why I think new things have to be tried. I'd hate to see poker slowly fade away to just a few poker rooms that only rich business people (who really don't care that much about winning) play in.

There's really no sense of community in the poker world, there's no really this is our place, this our hotel. Maybe if a hotel could build that kind of atmosphere the players would come and stay. Right now it's kind of every man/woman for themselves and screw the other guy mentality. I'm not saying you shouldn't be competitive and not try to win, but do it with a sense of community.

Sure there are people who don't give a **** about these people but there are some aging fanboys who might get something out of it.

Speaking of books, you could have permanent tables for authors and makers of training dvds. Once again you don't have to pay them, just have a space where they could hang out with their items.

These are types of things that what would make the place different from other poker rooms.
Interesting idea, been to Borders Books recently ?

.... instead, you might even call it Amazon/TwoPlusTwo/Upswing and put it on the internets !!!

wow just when you think a terrible idea can't get any worse

better make sure the fire code won't be violated with all of the people forcing there way in to a todd brunson book signing.the wait lists would be 5 hours long to play!

Speaking of a Brunson, I could just imagine a conversation at home that Doyle Brunson (or some similar big name)might have at home.

This one would be between Doyle and his wife:

"Honey, I'm really sick of dealing with all these haters on Twitter, I think I'll go down to Phil and Daniel's Poker World and make a few hundred doing meet and greets, taking photos with fans, and signing my books."

Wife: OK, hun, but don't stay too long, why don't you come home after making $300 or so.

Doyle imagines that conversation, too.

Then he wakes up in a cold sweat, until he remembers that he’s not dead broke and doesn’t have to drag his ailing 80+-year-old body over to Sahara Avenue in hopes of making a few bucks.

Let's think up some unique promos! This is the one I've fantasized about: dealer puts out the card of death, you lose, and get to use your one/day option, stick the dealer in one of these contraptions, and play 'Dunk the Dealer!'

Do you know of any such rooms? Uh, obviously so I can avoid them and go to the room where all the skillful and competitive players are.

They're usually the ones with the highest rake, highest room prices, highest drink prices, the most traffic to fight to get to, and the highest parking fees. All factors not conducive to making money at poker

In Field of Dreams they all told Ray not to chop down his corn and build that ball field. Well he built that field, and they came. Build your hotel wellreadted, and they will come. Christ almighty, they will come.

One of the most misquoted lines in movie history.

It's actually, 'Build it and HE will come'.

Which is probably more apt WRT this hotel idea.

Well, thanks, but I'm more of an idea man. This project will take a younger, driven, person, who loves poker and wants to take it to the next level. They must have backers (unless they are a billionaire) and be a 1st rate marketer.

Presumably the front of the establishment would be serving liquor, and the poker would be limited to the rear?

I swear I've seen this business model proposed elsewhere though.

If I booked a holiday to Vegas to stay at this new hotel because I wanted to play poker with Daniel on Daniel Night and was all excited about my trip in 6 months time, I would be pretty hurt to find when I got there that it had gone out of business.

Fortunately, as it’s that bad an idea, it will never get that far.

If I’m still that desperate to play with Daniel, I’ll just reg a 25k at Aria.

Your ignorance about the Las Vegas market is evident in every single attribute you offer:

1. The rake is pretty much uniform across all poker rooms there.
2. The price of rooms across the hotels in Las Vegas is pretty independent of whether one or more casinos in town offer X number of poker tables.
3. Drinks are free for poker players
4. traffic is a non-distinguishing attribute, especially in the age of uber. Fwiw, pretty much every Strip hotel is best approached from the East or West, not by driving much on the Strip.
5. Parking is generally free for regular players,or, alternatively, see uber above.

Your main idea, aside from your being an "idea man", is to build a poker themed hotel in the air, not in Las Vegas.

Looking at OP's thread from two years ago about Atlantic City puts this one in context...he has one crappy idea and seems disillusioned by the fact that nobody will fund it.

He has precisely ZERO money to contribute to the project and wants someone/everyone else to be the one to take the huge financial hit for the poker equivalent to the Lucky Dragon.
