What would be the typical number of poker low life's who would try to occupy one hotel room without paying for more than a single ?
If you don't have degen friends who get comped rooms you can surf through for the whole series you aren't a real grinder.

I want to see an Art Deco themed casino.

I just don't see the incentive for investors in a poker hotel. It's not like Vegas doesn't already have enough poker rooms to supply the demand. The value of casino floor space filled with slot machines is much higher than the same floor space filled with poker tables. Why knowingly build a casino that you know will be less profitable per sqft than your competitors?

I think it's a cool idea frankly, I'd probably hang out and play there, but it doesn't seem like a practical plan from a financial standpoint.

Even slots have a point of over-saturation and diminishing returns which is probably why the Slots of Fun casino (right next to Circus Circus) put 4 pool tables smack in the middle of their casino.

Ted - you clearly long for a hotel where nits like you can get free parking, low rake, and eat outside the casino at cheap food places. Basically a heaven for $1-$2 brokes. I too am suprised that casino folks haven’t taken advantage of this really lucrative market.

Nothing but old, ugly and cheap white males wearing satin Binions jackets and asking for free breakfast because they sat at a poker table folding for four hours.

Who says Vegas is dead?

Haha you kind of proved my point there with that picture. How much revenue are 4 empty pool tables with Budweiser lamp shades over them really generating for the casino? A bunch of empty poker tables in the middle of a casino floor would be the exact same situation.

Those pool tables are probably more profitable than putting poker tables there.

If there's a market for cheap, broke poker players, instead of a poker-themed hotel, what about a poker-themed hostel? Bunk beds in a dormitory, plus a few private rooms for the high rollers who ship a $60 tournament.

I used to play at the EdgeWater in Vancouver and you just summed up the entire place perfectly. Except about a third of the old ugly white males are actually Chinese. And there's no food.

Ted,

It is NOT a hotel and your point is off-base.

Slots of Fun, which is owned by Caesars, along with Circus Circus next door, depends upon walk-in traffic from the Strip. A long time ago, it offered really cheap beer with no gambling required and $1 blackjack tables.

The pool tables did not really replace slots, they replaced blackjack tables and carry practically no labor costs. This is not a property getting additional investments or upgrades from its owner,

The place once was a great, cheap place to play blackjack, get foot-long hotdogs and drink beer, sitting practically outside while watching pedestrian traffic. I suspect it's business model has suffered from both a lack of foot traffic plus a lowering of traffic quality, since the Riviera has closed across the street and the Stardust to the South also closed.

But hey, maybe you can convince Caesars to take out the slots entirely, call it Ted's Place and offer liquor in the front and poker in the rear.

The Riviera formerly hosted major pool championship tournaments; it closed down. (One of my first legal matters in Las Vegas was representing the government as a creditor in the Riviera bankruptcy, pool was not the reason the place shut down, but it would never have made it as a pool-themed hotel.)

Long shot: Industry revenue will continue to decrease amid heightened competition and low participation

"Over the five years to 2017, revenue the Pool and Billiards Halls industry has steadily declined as a result of poor consumer sentiment and direct competition within the industry. Because the industry is highly sensitive to changes in per capita disposable income, the subsequent decrease in the Consumer Confidence Index following the recession discouraged consumers from spending on leisurely activities such as pool and billiards. Furthermore, the industry faces fierce external competition from other bars and nightclubs that offer similar services to the casual pool player, as well as increasing alternative entertainment options such as video games and mobile technology"

The Riv was home to annual pool, darts, arm wrestling and roller derby. Much of it has moved to the Trop.

I know this might sound crazy to some people, but if there was a poker themed hotel why not have a showroom that has acts like Gabe Kaplan doing stand-up, or a magic show by Antonio Esfandiari. I would probably pay to see acts like those.

What if you had poker celebrity lookalikes as employees of the casino? For example a Mike Matusow lookalike could be a dealer and he would also act the part by berating players over bad plays at his table. Or a Doyle Brunson could be a greeter and he would tell interesting poker stories as customers came in. Would really add to the ambiance I think.

Close thread, OP has whittled the target market down to "maybe" 1 person, himself, once.

What if there was some sort of nightly debate or mock trial focusing on the Doug/Fernando kerfuffle? Seems like a guaranteed winner.
