How can the Burmese junta change a word in the English language? The English word for the place between Bangladesh and Thailand is "Burma". They can call themselves U)*(U(*JNKJ if they like, it doesn't change the name of that place in English.

I suppose you think that Germans call their country "Germany", Frenchmen call theirs "France", and Chinese call theirs "China"? If so, I must disillusion you. Germans refer to their country as Deutschland, Frenchmen use the term République française, and the Chinese use a variety of terms most of which quaintly imply China is the center of the universe.

Did pokerstars set up the same thing for the disaster in Burma ?

I read in the UK press :
"Burma victims lose aid battle as cash flows into China on wave of sympathy"

Both countries goverment's have awful human rights histories but that shouldn't stop relatively rich westerners donating a few dollers to help very poor people who are starving and homeless.

Maybe put off buying that expensive treat you've been thinking of buying this month and send out a few food parcels instead.

This said I think it's more effective to make a regular donation each month, if you can afford it.

If Pokerstars sets this kind of thing up for the China disaster, surely they should do it everytime something like this happens. Isn't China the next big market for Pokerstars? Or am I just being a bit cynical there ?

umm yea i emailed pokerstars a few times after discovering this. it seemed pretty wrong that they completely neglected the disaster in Burma. I told them about the china being the next big market and thats the reason they did it but they said they are transferring my email to another department. They did start a tsunami relief fund a few years ago so i dont think its the market thing. most people dont know about the cyclone in burma.

That tsunami fund was kool. They let me open a new account over that. I think they said my real name was on some list that got sent to the charity or someone by mistake.

lol, who's ignorant. Please EVERYONE research who you are sending your money to before you send it. I am not a heartless person. I donate both time and money to assist my community. I provided a lot of verified information that this money WILL NOT BE USED AS YOU ALL THINK IT WILL BE USED.

All of the information i have researched points to any money donated for china's earthquake relief is not going to our image of the American Red Cross, but china's version, which is run by a communist government that has not been a posterchild for civil rights. .

in conclusion, lazyness is the root here. It is noble to try to help those that need it, but ignorant believe everything you hear.

Why does everything has to be so political? We are sending money there to help the 5 million people who are left homeless because of the earthquake. We are not sending money there to aid the communist party. If you think the Chinese Government has done a deficient job on civil rights? Doesnt that mean the people there needs more help from us?

If you have watched the movie "Pearl harbor", you should know the famous Dolittle raid on Toyko, Americans' first strike-back after the Pearl harbor disaster.
But little is know that the Chinese paid dearly for helping the American pilots to reach the safety after they crashed down in the Japanese occupied area in China. The following is a direct quote from wikipedia:
"Following the Doolittle Raid, most of the B-25 crews that came down in China eventually made it to safety with the help of Chinese civilians and soldiers. The Chinese people who helped them, however, paid dearly for sheltering the Americans. The Japanese military began the Zhejiang-Jiangxi Campaign to intimidate the Chinese from helping downed American airmen. The Japanese killed an estimated 250,000 civilians while searching for Doolittle’s men."
This is how the Chinese people helped the Americans when they needed help. They helped with their own lives at risk.
I dislike the CCP as strongly as the next guy. But this should not prevent any people from helping the poor Chinese people suffering in that area.
Besides, Sichuan is also the home of the giant panda, I've heard their shelter collapsed and the giant pandas in the reservation center need food and new shelter. Some of the donation will help to save those adorable creatures too.
