that being said, if this chart is weighted by the amount of damage done based on the quaint of the drug being consumed by society, it does seem like it makes sense, and seems pretty accurate based on my experience. (Earlier in life, I have a regrettably long history of addiction and association with drug users, both using and in recovery)
just because drugs like Mephedrone and butane are near the bottom doesn't mean that they don't do more harm to INDIVIDUAL users, it just means that overall, they do harm to less people , because less people use them.
the more people that use a drug, the higher it will be on a list like this even if it is, or can be, less harmful..
Alcohol is good example... it is obviously the drug that does the most damage to people and others, but the vast majority of people that occasionally indulge don't experience any real harm to them self or others, but SO MANY PEOPLE use it that the relatively small people that it does great harm to add to to a very high number....
You mention that heroine is higher than Methadone, well not that i disagree with what you say about the Phamrma industry, but Heroine is Far More damaging to both users and others than Methadone because of two things, one the lifestyle you have to live as a heroine addict is far worse, and the quality of the drugs is usually far worse that anything pharmaceutical. I speak from a lot of experience with both, they are both evil, but daily Heroine use will drag a person down to the depths like almost nothing else (except for smoking coke)... and I know of many people that have seemingly normal lives on Methadone, (it doest cost hundreds of dollars per day, it allows you keep a job because it lasts a full day, you don't have go searching for drugs in rotten neighborhoods every 4 to 8 hours, you don't have to worry about abscesses and other damage from bad cut and missed shots, you don't have to suffer because your connection is out or you got ripped off... etc. etc. etc.
So I think this chart is based on Damage to the amount of people affected both users and others , and if so it seems like someone put a lot of effort into making this chart accurate.
as a footnote, I'm not proud that I wasted over 15 years of my life as a junkie, and was involved in one way or another with a lot of the drugs listed on the chart, but i am proud that I'm over it and because of that experience i can say the CHART SEEMS PRETTY DAMN GOOD. so please don't tell me or anyone else that the chart is bad and discussion is over, when you obviously don't have a clue as to what you are talking about.
Nice post, a couple things:
- Alcohol is very harmful to individuals when you consider the increased risk of cancer and other diseases that are associated with its use
- Mephedrone is pretty bad for you, but I think a big reason that it's being used is because of the crackdown on MDMA, so I think a lot of the responsibility for this one falls on the prohibition agents, FWIW, I also feel that the incidence of alcoholism would decrease if other drugs were legalised
- In some places (like Switzerland), they give addicts pharmaceutical grade heroin as part of harm reduction programs; in this context, I think it's quite possible that it's more healthy than methadone
- Why do you spell heroin as Heroine? It's not a female hero, it's a drug
When it comes down to it, it's all about education / awareness.
