Back to WSOP attendance. Based upon Oink's numbers, of the first 28 events, 16 were up, 11 down, 1 even. Seems like a decent trend to me. Seniors event set a record as well. Organizers seem pretty confident that entire festival will set an entry record. Doesn't seem like live poker is dead to me.

Considering what looks like more and more side poker series happening in Vegas with economical buy-ins and better structures than the WSOP events, I'd say the WSOP is still going strong after looking at those +/- percentages year over year.

Surely Pokerstars can now see that the removal of Supernova Elite and rake hikes are killing the games.

The 125k players now includes degenerate gamblers betting sports and the Full Tilt liquidity pool as well.

....

It's also Father's Day; the middle of June.

people are starting to realize that getting rich in poker, is a lot easier than staying rich in poker.

10 years from now the wsop will be back at binions.

+1. I've been to the WSOP every year for the past 10 years, but I'm seriously considering not going back next year for these reasons.

Why are we still posting when the numbers say attendance is clearly higher than ever?

i think its directly related to the economy so much so it could be used as an indicator for prosperity. people still love to play it just needs good marketing again.

They are not higher than ever. I was there in 07, 08, 09 and this trip you could tell it had a much different feel. Not crowded at all, no lines, the aura was much different. We both noticed it. Played cash and we were all talking about it. Not the same by a long shot.

nah, poker tourneys are doing great actually. there's several different overlapping series in vegas and all have big attendance. it s the cash games that have turned to (relative) shyt compared to bygone days.

It may be true for those years but you're talking about it being down from the last couple of years in your OP. It was proven wrong. As you said in your thread title, it "seems" that way, it isn't.

Yes, I realize that guy said "higher than ever".

OK, higher than in recent memory.

The real question is how many leading poker pros did your wife take selfies with this trip?

+1

There's an insane of amount of tournaments for better value for the rec player in the $500-$1500 range. Getting 5k starting chips for a $1k buy in at the wsop is a joke.

fwiw, the wsop seemed to be going strong when I was there a couple weeks ago. The hallways seem more crowded than the last few years.

WSOP weather forecast, an admittedly random post, but >>>>>>

The high temperature EVERY DAY thru July 3 will be > 110 degrees. Next week is forecast up to 116 degrees.

Just thought I'd pass that along for folks coming to the desert.

Carry on.

global warming and drought will make weather even worse in early July in Vegas

when they started the November 9, I thought they were going to split the series and have a 'fall season'

There are entry figures by event that can be compared, so we don't need to rely on your wife's memory of auras from nine years ago.

Possibly OP meant "aroma" rather than aura.
