They are tracked. Remember, you need your total rewards card to register..
They published them for a couple of years, but they’ve always been tracked. There’s a Caesars database somewhere that has all the raw data.

To summarize:

Lazy journalist picks 20 players and ranks them, then comes up with a (white) magic formula that justifies his ranking. 30 minutes later he has a new article to get paid for. Forgets Stuey Ungar and Men Nguyen even existed and would’ve made the top 10.

Dan Smith should clearly be in the top 10, if not the top 5.

I was in the main event, had a huge stack, but got knocked out with pocket Kings. If I had won that tournament, and a couple more, I’d be on that list.

it's meaningless unless they take into account % of cashes vs. number or tourneys entered

eric seidel is the most skilled mtt players I ever seen. Great control with knowing when to apply leverage in the right spots to put opponents in difficult situations over and over again. I would say Ivey could of been the best but he would punt out of mtts just to go to cash games. Hellmuth is definitely the most patient he tries to win every hand he plays in mtt and he never loses that focus. I am surprised dan coleman is not top 10. i would actually put him number 2 behind seidel. Dnegs has no business in top 500 players. Hes gotten better but hes not world class player.

I don't think that's true at all. PH doesn't play fundamentally sound poker, but he's obviously carved out a successful strategy vs soft fields.

I don’t se ehow this list is close to accurate without Doug Polk, Alec Torelli, Jonathan Little, and Bart Hanson.

"Historically" speaking that list could have a lot of merit with older players who have had success long ago and in modern era but as far as the "Best" Live MTT player lol @that top 10

The last 3 tournaments Chan won were with $100 and $150 buy-ins, and 2014/2015

I wish I could go back in time an win Main bracelets in 125 player fields

He did cash the WSOP Main Event 5 times in the past decade. I know it's regarded as the softest $10k in the world, but those results suggest he is still a competent player when he dabbles in MTTs.

I'll go back to my "you can't compare across eras" argument.

Jesse Owens is considered a legend in track & field. He won the 1936 Olympic 100m gold with a time of 10.3 seconds. That would've been dead last at the 2016 Olympics by a significant margin.

Likewise, take any high roller crusher from the current poker era (i.e. Peters, Chidwick, Ike, Bonomo, Holz) and they probably have a lot more NLHE skill than people like Chan, Brunson, Moss, and Ungar ever did. However, in the context of their era, they aren't more exceptional than those guys were in their time, so it's hard to compare them.
