Convenience stores: Convenience stores are similar to gas stations in that they are often open late at night and are easy targets for criminals. Armed guards can help to keep these businesses safe.
Jewelry stores: Jewelry stores sell high-value items that are attractive to thieves. Armed guards can help to deter theft and robbery from these businesses.
Banks: Banks are a prime target for criminals because they store large amounts of cash. Armed guards are a common sight at banks, and they help to protect both customers and employees from robbery.
In addition to these businesses, there are many other small businesses that may employ armed guards depending on their location, the products or services they offer, and the crime rate in their area. For example, small businesses that are located in high-crime areas or that sell high-value products may be more likely to employ armed guards.
I have never seen an armed guard at any of these places in my life, let alone multiple armed guards at one of them. Like you said this may have to be to my ability to stay away from high crime areas.
I worked at a bank for a few years and one time the power went out for a few days because of a storm and we stayed open without a security guard, security cameras, an emergency button or any other electronic security measures. This bank had ~7 branches and there were 0 security guards on the payroll or paid thru a 3rd party at any of the locations.
