Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the purveying truth of poker, that the specialist always wins in their game...i.e. Gavz at PLO, IHJ at limit, Gus at Backgammon.

Yeah but he is the exception to rule, the modern Chip Reese and he has even hinted in chat that he knows he is a dog to some of the biggest limit players. He makes up for this by playing higher to take them out of their comfort range and quench his thirst to gamble at the same time. Gus owns at landing top-flite 19 year old tennis pros.

You're not wrong, but my comment ties into a sort of dated debate. For awhile after the PLO shift there was always talk about the games being 'insulated', and opinions ranged from 'OMG these guys are the best look at ALL THE MONEY they're playing for' to 'OMG these guys totally suck, any 1/2 grinder would mop the floor with them'. I was leaned towards the latter but nowhere near that extreme. I think Gandalf and Tim ACTUALLY ARE two of the best PLO players NOW, but people were saying this after their first session.

I guess my comment was kinda irrelevant at heart, i'm just happy to see Gavz doing well, especially after this:

A great many good players never overcome a hit like that, whether it's due to BR decimation or getting frustrated and quitting poker or just never psychologically recovering.

i think there should be a hold em high stakes thread and a omaha high stakes thread.

i personally dont like looking at omaha hands, never play the game.

I think there are quite a few exceptions to your theory Chump, although I agree with it in general.

One is (imo) durrrr. I've seen a bunch of people list him in their top x HU PLO players, and I read some quote from Rob Hollink saying that when durrrr first started playing PLO he played him almost every day. First week he won because he was too tight, second week won because he was too loose and in the 3rd week durrrr got too good so Rob quit.

CTS would also come to mind, and (in before flaming, though let's not have another discussion about this lol) Isildur. Hastings too I guess, and I think Antonius started playing PLO after he'd made a bunch at holdem?
