I used the instructions on help.benm.at (mentioned above), but this site has the same instructions in an easier to read format:

Does this cause any issues with updating or backing up your phone?

Adding this feature to my phone has made absolutely no difference to performance, backing up, etc. As far as updating, I can say that the move from 3.0 to 3.0.1 was smooth, and the tethering option remained intact. I haven't had any extra charges on my bill yet, but I'm not using it for more than an hour or so at a time, playing poker and maybe browsing the web a bit.

I.Rowboat,
I haven't experienced the battery issue you're having. My phone charges while tethering, and once it hits 100% it stays there until I unplug it. Maybe it's a ymmv type of thing?

Not to sound like an ass, but did you read anything besides the OP? There's plenty of information within the first 14 or 15 messages on how to do it. Perhaps you need someone to come over and read the thread for you, and then go to the link for you and take the three minutes it takes to tether your iPhone?

lazy ppl itt
