- Try and play 1B or 1C. Go to day 1A and sit and watch a whole blind level (all 2 hours). That will give you a feel for the pace of it which is slow.
- Days are long. Start 12pm, 2 hour levels (20 min break), after 3 levels 90 min dinner break, 2 more 2 hour levels. Day finishes around 1245am
- Don't eat too much and certainly don't eat too much junk food. Digestion is the 2nd biggest energy drain on the male body. Eat good food, drink green (iced if prefer) tea. Plenty of bananas, dinner can be fried rice, rice/noodles with veges.
- Don't get overwhelmed by the numbers around you and noise. You can only beat the table you are on so put all your effort and energy into that.
- Be patient, it is a very slow structure. Make yourself a spreadsheet with all the blind levels with various chip stacks. You can blind yourself out all of day 1 and still be in reasonable shape in day 2.
- Start stack 30K, in general you want to be around 60K for day 2, 100-120K for start of day 3.
- Enjoy yourself and absorb the adrenaline. Let your body absorb it while your brain works out the Poker problems.
Many excellent things in here. A few I would add.

1. Are you going with someone else? If so have them get a dinner table 30 min or so. prior to dinner break. The complete chaos and crowds on dinner break are insane.

2. Since you haven't been to Rio go day before get your ticket and find seat. It can take some getting used to the 3 rooms, color sections, etc.

3. Plan out food. Figure out what light snacks and drinks you want to bring. On break lines are very busy.

4. Speaking of breaks, expect ridiculously long a bathroom lines. If you can leave 1 min early or if you sense a hand might take awhile go, or just accept missing a hand or two. To have down time on break not sitting in a 10 min piss line can help relieve stress.

5. As mentioned before, 2 hour levels are an eternity (something I did poorly my first two, but much better my last main). Be patient. You can't win anything day one or two. Figure out who at your table you want to avoid and then avoid marginal spots vs them.

6. If you make it beyond day 1 check table draw and research players. There are so many good players you have never heard of or seen but some quick research can clue you in. For those saying the field is so soft, pony up the 10k and you will find out that it isn't.

7. Have fun. Take pictures. Have a friend get pics of you.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Duhamel won in 2010, but these days he'd be lucky to finish top 100.

Come up with your own signature move, like barking loudly every time a hand goes your way.

Have you considered playing a $235 deepstack to get a feel for the place? Might save you $9765 if you don't "feel it" or get hungry .

Is that true that digestion drains energy? Weird because before i play i usually go to the buffet and scarf a few plates of food

OP reminds me of my little brother who played last years Main with me.

He plays very little poker and as we were walking in for day 1 he asks me how long does the day goes for and can you leave the table in the middle of play to go the gym?

As opposed to all those players who hit top 100 without luck. GG.

I'll play it one day, I'm keen social player, lost my job last October took me 4 months and lots of my roll to live.

So literally starting again In August, 3 year plan, god mode would be a great start ☺️
Please give us updates, glgl

I had a guy next to me in 2009 who asked me if you got a trophy or a million dollars for winning the thing. When I told him he might get a million for 9th place he nearly shat himself. He then got blacked out drunk by waterfalling some sort of whiskey. Eventually he got so drunk he grabbed all his chips got up and wandered off into the night. (Harrahs execs ended up raiding his room btw) The Tao Of Pauly had a blog post about it, look for a Day 1A recap from 2009.

Oh yea and another guy at my table lost a third of his stack in the first level (so he's at 200bbs) and declares "I can't win this now, it's over" and mentally gives up. Then offers to give anyone a blowjob at the table if they can win with pocket deuces.

I don't know if it is still allowed or not, but there is a restroom off of the shipping dock that is there for employees. You could use it, grab a smoke and get a beer in less time that it took to get into the public restrooms.

Make sure to take at least 10-15 seconds before acting on your hand when it's on you. The other players at the table will respect you as formidable.

So if all players are formidable each hand will take minimum of 2 minutes. Sound advice
