And estate? That mean including the house and everything? So he had less than that to spare.
Perhaps he only had $10m at the end because he was buying into games for $500k a pop when he was a big dog.

The more I hear about him the more I like this guy!

Some sites have their news mixed up. He died in October.

He was found at home dead of unknown cause October 31, and there was supposed to be an autopsy but as far as I know results were not published.

Some web site evidently put the story out today and others then picked it up like he just died. What did just happen is the news about his will. That's today's news.

fwiw when you see that it looks like a media coverup. probably the autopsy result weren't pleasing to some.

ITS A CONSPIRACY. ( it probably his, that would explain why he went almost broke even tho he had +200 milli not so long ago. )

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU
This is exactly what goes through my head when I read an article with could care less in it. So much so that the premise of the article is totally forgotten.

So the guy died with $8million to his name and you're acting like he did something wrong... Did it ever occur to you that Alan simply enjoyed playing nosebleed stakes poker enough that he didn't care if he was a huge underdog? I highly doubt that he was clinging to the high stakes poker crowd in search of friendship, that's pretty lol.

Reminds me of Mr. Deeds. The more I read about Alan, the more I see he had an absolute heart of gold, heart of a lion to put up 500K on HSP against the best when it represented such a big portion of his net worth. Legend to divorcees everywhere, that's for damn sure!

Does no one in this thread understand how estate planning works? Just because he had only 10 million in his probate estate, it doesn't mean he only had 10 million to his name. Joint tenancy, POD bank accounts, trusts, etc. The 10 million that ended up getting probated in his will was probably like 1 of his bank accounts.

As examples, here are a couple of relatively recent numbers from extended family of mine:

Probate Estate: ~90k, Total Assets Distributed: ~700k.
Probate Estate: ~8k, Total Assets Distributed: ~75k

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet about his generosity...

On a Poker After Dark episode I think it was he had a bet with someone and won the bet, he won like $2,400 or something like that. And when the other player tossed him the chips to cover the bet Melzter gave it right to the dealer and said "That's for you, kid" or something to that effect. Gabe Kaplan I believe it was commented on what a nice gesture it was when he did it.
