Wow Acr just got every major celeb to promote them for free, that is genious. If Pepsi or a major company tried to do that it would easily run them 50+ mil. Genious. They should atleast do the noble thing and match the million dollars for getting all this pr.

Yes, this is a classic PR move by them and a huge coup for them really.

Associate yourself with a big celebrity and your stock and your credibility goes up immediately, associate yourself with a big group of celebrities, and well.

This is potentially massive for ACR in any future legal proceedings that might happen, because they can argue that America loves online poker so much but is being denied it, and point to this event where some of America's most iconic and well respected stars came and played on their site.

When there are grey areas of law being argued or challenged, this kind of stuff could swing it in their favour.

Something tells me ACR doesn't give a fk and probably hopes poker is never legal in america as they can keep the spot they have

That's a good point, but in the end I feel that they would prefer if online poker is legalised in the USA, or, if their version of it has the threat of legal action against it lifted.

Ben Affleck is currently on the phone talking to the commentators.

Future court case:

"Calling our next witness for the defence. Mr Benjamin Affleck."

How are the non ACR pros buying in. I don't think half of these guys have 10k lying about, let alone to buyin to a tourney unstaked with no prizes.

To blow on a charity poker tourney with no prize money, no.

Kevin Pollak huge lead. I know its all charity but would still suck to win 1 million in a tournament and be -$10k at the end of tournament.

Shutting down ACR and a massive fine is easy money.
How would they do this exactly? Where do you seize the funds or fine someone from a place where you have no legal jurisdiction and how? How do you seize the software and the ability for them to offer it, if none of these people reside in the US? I mean the US has been trying to shutdown bitmex since its inception and that hasn't led to any kind of shutdown. TBH I'm curious about all the above because I was under the idea that those things were not possible.

Did FTP and PS have all of their servers in the US? You think the US doesnt have reach on cyber or physical crimes against US citizens just cause someone or something is outside the US? Wake up buddy. Its a field trip for them.

You realize they can write off the 10k toward owed taxes right?

Yes, not of 10k value savings of course only 2 to 4k savings.

My point is donate 10k to charity great, you know you are -10k for charity, on this tho it would basically be a winner take all for 1 million, and you just burned that run good and got zero for it and are down 10k.

My instinct is that the ACR pros didn't donate $10K each, nor did Jamie Staples. The wealthier pros it is more likely did donate $10K.

More likely I would think that it was waived by ACR and the ACR pros/Jaime Staples may have been paid something to stream the tournament as well as publicise it on social media.

The above is a pure guess by me and I am not saying that they haven't also donated some of their own money separately, all or most of them probably have. But I agree with previous posters that $10K is a lot of money for players if it's ~5% or more of their bank roll.

Or maybe they did pay the $10K but raised it through a group of donations from friends and fans.

PS and the rest was still operational for the rest of the world, they didn't get shutdown for everyone else, and .com domains were seized, their servers were fine. The criminal side of FTP all resided in the U.S. and were able to be prosecuted right? So how is this a field trip exactly when they can't seize all the domain names and they will never be on us soil or a country willing to help? It seems a little more of a field trip or they would have done this to exchanges and other sites a long time ago.

From what I understand, the winner (Ebony Kenney) didn't get $1M, or anything for that matter. The prizepool is going to the charity. She'll probably just get a tax write-off.

ACR definitely put some of the streamers/sponsored pros in this tournament.

I've played in plenty of charity events...usually there is some sort of decent prize for the final table participants, but one time all the prizes were awful (Cheryl Hines was at my table)...once I realized there was nothing to win, I just spewed my chips away...as every player learns early, without something at stake, poker isn't a lot of fun!

My guess is some players just made the donation and played crazy, while others actually decided that it was real poker...my guess is Kevin Pollack played seriously.

So, how long did it take you in that Charity Tourney you once played to "realize" there was nothing to win ?

In yesterday's All In for America Tournament, every participant and donor was advised beforehand of the rules and only a nominal prize pf a trophy. There were a number of re-buys because some players seemingly enjoyed the experience.
