A suspicious man would say that the extra card being discovered as part of the nuts as opposed to being found out earlier would lean towards cheating, especially if the deck had been in play for a while. Although if the winning player was calling you out on the check-raise instead of just moving on to the next hand, that would temper my suspicions.
If someone was cheating he would have had 5 cards in his hand, since he discarded none. (OP stated that the deck had 53 cards.)

Don't the shuffling machines count the cards?

Yes, seems like a good reason to play at a poker room that uses them...

I can only assume someone picked "purple" and "gray" out of a catalog without actually looking at the two next to each other and by the time they arrived it was too late.

The cash games at the WSOP don't have shuffling machines.

The best was when Glantz tweeted that a table during the milly maker had a joker in it.

This happened to me in a (poorly run) casino charity event in MA. I raised with A-Joker, and everybody folded.

This is correct. I thought he might have a set and a king high flush and just didn't want to get bluffed so said f it im gonna shove. I've seen that before in plo many times, that was the only scenario that seemed plausible and i just assumed he was lying/trying to tilt me after the hand until he became so ademant that another player at the table said hey check that ****ing deck. I also had just sat in this game, played maybe 2 hands before this one, so i have no idea how long they were playing with the faulty deck, i do know however that it seems like i was a moron for not calling ngc immediately and at least trying to get my money back.

Leave it to poker players to complain about getting too much of a good thing. What's next? Try and get a bartender fired for putting an extra shot in your drink?

I can't believe they didn't give money back or find some type of resolution.

Should have taken a picture.

There are lots of partial decks lying around in cardrooms as they use the partial decks to replace marked cards in other decks so it is very easy to get either an incomplete deck or a deck with 2 of the same cards if they aren't checked properly by the dealer. It's the dealer's fault...he/she was a lazy ****.

I guarantee if it was a higher stakes games with big name pros at the table the resolution would have been much much different.
no ****. because the floor KNOWS that one of them is going to pick up the phone and call gaming

An explanation may be that they don't get individual, sealed decks?? And maybe there are a bunch of sets put together and when they go to separate them, the Ace of Spades from one set gets pulled into another one, since its usually the first/last card.

Either way, this shouldn't be happening as often as we hear about it.
