Sounds to me like Admo tried to set up something reasonable. This isn't an average 20-something-y.o.; it's a 20-something-y.o. that plays poker at stakes where there's a (nice) Mercedes or more on the table at all times. Clearly SW couldn't get a job at McDonalds and pay off the 30k right away, but he could have at least admitted his mistakes and tried to set up (AND STICK TO) some sort of payment plan. Admo seemed willing to work something out.

And it's not like this was a 30-year mortgage that Admo all of a sudden was like "sorry, due now". It was a swap that was supposed to be done in 24 hours.
I agree that Admo is fortunate that he received the 30k - GIVEN the way the situation had been playing out - but it did cost Admo time and money to get his 30k back, and I think it's on SW to make that right.
That said, if I were in Admo's shoes, I wouldn't spend much more money chasing the extra 4.5k. Take him to civil court if you want to (which is cheap); I'm actually interested to see how that aspect plays out.
Best of luck to Admo in this crappy situation, and best of luck to SW turning his life around. It will be an uphill battle, though, especially since it doesn't look he learned anything from this situation.
