Of course it's a good idea. For poker players and for the NJ economy. I'm willing to bet it will still wind up being the best/biggest site in NJ if given a fair chance, but the gap may not be as wide as it would have been.

Same for NJ, where it seems will be much easier to get set up on and play while I am within state borders.

Not an issue really, rather than a desire to understand better, how it all works.....which I now think I do.

In their response (see below) to my query, the Poker Stars Rep did make a point to say "a player is only allowed one account" .............but I suspect they have yet to really hash out how the addition of a NJ only site might impact that policy, for those that travel a lot.
It think its because people can set up a remote VPN to appear like they are out of the country yet still play in the USA. This is a effective way to deter it.

Ultimately having Amaya as an active participant in the regulated market for online poker in the U.S. is a net win in terms of moving the conversation forward in other states.

The rewards program question is obviously a critical one for many individual players and for the broader conversation about the international ecosystem, but it's not terribly relevant to NJ / the regulated U.S. market.

Weren't the state lotteries identified as a, if not the, major impediment to moving forward with state by state regulation of online poker with tribal and other casinos coming in a close second? How will Amaya's new strategy of explicitly competing with the lotteries and established gaming interests effect their state by state effort? The powers that be may start, perhaps correctly, viewing poker as a kind of trojan horse in which the soldiers of their misfortune preventably ride.

It seemed easy enough before to accept that poker really was something special, a skill game deserving of a carve out. It may be a tougher sell with the new brass following the stated plan of directly stealing the natives' marketshare. This may not go over well, Amaya being a foreign operator with a spotty record and all. Has this been talked about until now? Sorry haven't followed the legislation/regulation scene for a while.

Hypothetically if you live in NY and travel into NJ and sit in a bar (or whatever) you can play right?
If you were to do this do you still setup an account with the NY address etc? Linked to the bank account you would be depositing it from? Is it simply the IP address and playing within the NJ state limits that is the issue?

Yes, if it works like the existing NJ sites do, that's correct. Your "home" address can be anywhere. But you can only play from within the NJ state borders, which is verified by:
i) IP address (easy to spoof, obv)
ii) Geocomply wifi-network mapping (quite difficult to spoof).
(Moreover, spoofing either one of these I'm pretty sure is a criminal act acc to NJ law, so you can decide if you want to roll those dice.)

What I'm interested to see is whether Stars will, as I've wondered before, adopt the Geocomply standard for their ROW sites...we'll see just how serious they are about stopping the VPN thing, which by all accounts has gotten out of control. They've declined to do so to this point, implicitly sending the message that, on the balance, they'd rather have the rake the VPN'ers generate than actually stop the VPN'ing. But now that they'll have completely integrated Geocomply into the NJ Stars client, they'll rather effortlessly be able to integrate it into the rest of their geo-specific clients. Whether or not they do will be rather telling as far as how serious they are about stopping VPN'ers.

Confused about whether PokerStars is going to be offering online casino games.
1) OPR article says no (or at least not right away, given that Resorts has current online casino agreements with NYX/Sportech.)
2) But Amaya press release stated: "PokerStars will also offer customers an array of online casino games, including a wide selection of different Blackjack variants, as well as Roulette, Baccarat, Video Poker and Slots."

Assume Amaya's word is more accurate...?

If it was so easy wouldn't they already be in the unregulated USA markets? And if your argument is they are why are USA games so soft?

Depends if they require a SSN (and if you have one). Party does, WSOP doesn't.
