Met a Ukrainian girl who was on the same bus I was yesterday and staying at the same hostel and we hiked like 15 km today over the mountains to a neighboring town. Yesterday when I first met her I was like "oh I have a Ukrainian friend from Kharkov" and she was like "that's the Russian name in Ukrainian it's [nfi what she said]", and so I figured she wasn't a fan of Russians.

Then today we were talking about languages because she knows about 7 of them (Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, German, English, and working on her Spanish) and at some point I asked her what the Ukrainian word for butterfly is because for some bizarre reason I try to collect that tidbit of knowledge for as many languages as I can and she told me and then was like "do you want to know the Russian too?" and I sheepishly had to answer yes, and the Russian word did sound quite a bit cooler.

The russian word for butterfly - "babochka" is very similar to the russian for the word for grandmother - "babushka".

Wrong but thanks. I enlisted to gain skills so I could defend myself, to serve my country and to get money for college. And I got deployed so wrong there. And I reenlisted to deploy to afghanistan, and I was combat arms.
