How can you say we lost the trade war? Look at our GDP growth compared to China's. They need us way more than we need them - compare our recent trends in total trade to China and other countries.
It doesn't matter if trump understands what a poor person is - what matters is how we finally have a president that is willing to help them.
Tipping the regulative scales heavily in favor of big capital is like surviving on sugar. Cheap, quick, effective in short bursts, and ultimately you'll die a fat malnutritioned slob. The trends have been visible in the US economy for a good while already. Big behemoths are gobbling up contenders, big markets fall on fewer and fewer hands and entrepreneurship is waning. Nothing that can't be turned around, but a) it wasn't necessary to begin with b) the longer it sits, the harder that gets.
As for China, you're mistaking a short battle for the war. An unstable and isolationist US has paved the way for their long-term efforts to dominate international trade. Meanwhile your administration is trying to befriend foreign governments which wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire, breaking promises to the allies you actually need and generally bumbling about about as competently as a beached whale.
Have you seen or heard Chinese diplomats? They're good.
Really good. And they're spending spending hundreds billions making friends and building a China-centered trade system.
What is the Trump administration offering up? Sending "don't be a tough guy" via letter? Giuliani doing group chats and federal crimes on Whatsapp while faking federal letterheads? Billionaire donors who apparently have such a bad recollection their testimonies under oath is more "I don't recall" than substance? You literally have the best career diplomats and intelligence officials in the world. And you have a president who has been pushing them under the bus for three years and instead relies on people who so absurdly incompetent that it makes Onion articles from 2015 seem understated.
Right now your foreign policy is literally just surviving because it can coast on solid institutions, but your current president has literally been attacking and tearing down these every damn day of his presidency.
