Is this the first time you guys have seen a Victor post? He kinda just says things that aren't true, doesn't even attempt to back it up, and then moves on. But because he generally comes from the left he gets a little more leeway than moderate or right wing posters.

Regardless of the exact % of DAs and AGs who you consider progressive, the simple truth is progressive philosophy has become a lot more normalized and consequently the prison rate has dramatically decreased in the last few years.

And IMO an honest assessment of the consequences of this policy shift would show it has been a substantial negative, especially for low income black/brown communities.

Dont get me wrong. I think we absolutely should have a lower prison population. But it should happen organically by reorganizing society so there is less serious crime, not by deciding to stop prosecuting serious crime in the midst of a crime wave.

Yeah, but if you don't reply in some sort, it's tacit consent of the lies.

This is an odd criticism coming from you for at least two reasons.

First, it comes in the immediate wake of you saying that progressives run "large swathes of the criminal justice system." which was a statement that wasn't true and which you made no attempt to back up when you made the comment.

Second, it comes in the immediate wake of people expressing extreme skepticism about something Victor said, in just the same way they were skeptical of what you said.

I'm glad your posting is nothing at all like this.

Almost all of Victor's positions are the polar opposite of mine, but I can't think of a time when I thought he was lying about something.

He overgeneralizes and engages in wild hyperbole, especially when discussing his most hated group, which is American liberals. (He knows Trump supporters are worse, and will acknowledge as much if pressed, but they don't infuriate him as much as American liberals do.)

All that said, I don't think he is trying to trick anyone into believing something that he knows to be untrue. He just hates American liberals that much.

The Trump supporters know that they're bad people and that the only thing that drives them is sticking it to the libs.

2nd degree manslaughter charges coming for the subway killer.

§ 125.15 Manslaughter in the second degree.
A person is guilty of manslaughter in the second degree when:
1. He recklessly causes the death of another person; or

seems fair. he'll still be able to claim self defense in trial, but the charges should happen imo.

This guy got 2nd degree manslaughter for a hit and run accident (where he left the victim for dead and ran and didn't lift a finger to try to help) and only got 1-3 years. I guess that is just what 2nd deg manslaughter in NYC gets these days.

Given the defendant in this case is on video trying to give first aid (too late obviously) and stayed on the scene and cooperated, if/when he gets a comparable or possible lesser sentence I anticipate much outrage from the racial grievance outrage crowd led by AOC.

It's funny. Whenever you are closer to a topic than the average person, you realize how clueless most people are about that topic. That's very much how I feel whenever I read posts by you about crime in NYC.

If this guys gets one year or less I am fairly confident AOC will have a negative racial grievance themed response. Do you disagree with this?

It's like watching a movie about a topic you are a subject matter expert in. Ruins all of the fun.

I have no idea what she will say and I don't really care. Your prediction about what she might say wasn't the impetus for my comment.

Come on, be honest. You may not care, but we all definitely know what she will say. The racial grievance crowd is nothing if not predictable.

I honestly don't know. I don't hang on her every word in the same way that rabid consumers of right wing media do.

Just saw a trailer for the live action The Little Mermaid. As most of you could predict right wing twitter is doing their outrage thing because the protagonist is black (if nothing else, the right wing outrage machine is also predictable). I am actually a fantasy buff, and even I find it a little absurd to be outraged over the "race" of non-human fictional characters in film adaptations of fantasy stories**

What I find even more amusing and ironic given the times is that in the original cartoon Ursula is basically portrayed as a drag queen. And in this version she just looks like your run of the mill morbidly obese woman. Seems like it would have been a pretty obvious opportunity to just cast an actual drag queen for the role. I can only assume they had casted before they got so involved in the trans culture war.

**Although I was annoyed they made Liet-Kynes a woman in the Dune adaptation. It makes no sense a patriarchal clan based society like the Fremen would have a woman as their leader.

That could almost make sense if drag queens and trans women were the same thing.
