According to sources the balloon was estimated to carry over 200,000 pounds of equipment.

Compare that to a satellite. And the price of sending a satellite to orbit.

Wow, that's a lot of weather stuff... I wonder if it would have been possible to intercept it without it being demolished.

Same can be said about the classified documents that they hid from the people unless a news organization broadcast it
I’m 90% sure that’s a fake jobs report as usual. People looking for full time work isn’t the same as the real unemployment number.

Google says
In December 2022, the inactive labor force amounted to about 100.62 million people in the United States. Labor force measures are based on the civilian non-institutional population 16 years old and over.Jan 6, 2023

All of the jobs reports only include people actively looking, and maybe only if they are receiving IU. So they are always understated, but as long as the way they are calculated stays the same they give relevant information.

Interestingly, Andy Ngo had his Twitter account locked and a bunch of Tweets deleted for retweeting Northwest Antifa cells organizing and calling for violent domestic terrorism. Obviously organizing terrorism is against Twitter's T&S, hence his ban. However, there is very little Twitter can do against the Antifa cells actually using Twitter for this purpose, as their networks are very small and it is easy for them to just cycle through burner accounts to evade Twitter punishment, and the local authorities and FBI have shown very little appetite for prosecuting left wing terrorism.

So we have an interesting conundrum of whether the media should be able to report on criminal activity that the authorities refuse to do anything about, even if by reporting said media is technically violating Twitter T&S.

Why would China would lie and wants even more conflict with the US ?
China already have massive issues at home .
More likely they did pull the bs balloon like the US do for Taiwan and things like that lately .
You’re super naive

Biden decides to nip the balloon intrusions in the bud. He makes the call to shoot down an unidentified object flying over Alaska. Apparently the altitude of the object was a "threat to civilian aviation."

It's comparable to looking at a map. If it's not on the map, you won't know it's there. Ignorance is bliss, so to speak.

Unfortunately non-farm payrolls (much like any major economic metric) is a moving target, and involves seasonal factors along with adjustments that involve educated guesses. This is so because the report must be produced quickly for market consumption.

The BLS QCEW report, which is compiled every quarter, is a much more accurate measure of employment. But it takes much longer to produce, hence it is not considered much by the market. This and NFP have basically been in agreement until last year, when the Philadelphia Fed noticed that NFP was overstating NFP by about 1 million. OCEW will be publishing their next quarter report soon, so we should find out more about the disparity then.

So on the bizarre psy-op front, they (allegedly) shot down something off the Alaskan coast, and won't say what it was only that it wasn't like the (alleged) Chinese balloon.

You can't really put a corporation in prison. There were large fines given.

Although I do think there should be more prosecution of decision makers at corporations for illegal actions done as part of their jobs.

Yes but when your company makes 10 billion as an example and your fine is 2 billion and you knowingly distributed an addictive drug you should go to jail as well not just pay a fine

I suppose my question about these reports is: does it seem reasonable that they would report that things are being shot down while providing basically no details about what the objects are?

I don't think it does although I'm sure people will disagree. I'm sort of curious what our resident former military psy-oper thinks.

I don't know all bthe details of what happened, but if any individuals knowingly lied about the drug's addictive potential, they definitely should be prosecuted.

The official word yesterday was that it was not yet known what the second thing is.

They have stated the first balloon carried Chinese surveillance equipment. I can't imagine much more detail than that will ever be available to the general public.

Everything NY Times is behind a paywall so I can only read two a month or something. If you're saying someone did knowingly lie about it though, I believe you (and the NY Times). Of course the perpetrator should still be given a fair trial, but I'm all for prosecution of individuals as part of corporations or governments.
