Was she set up using the old Ron Burgandy teleprompter trick?

she combined the words knicks and lakers and clearly said "knackers" because she isnt a sports reporter and is based in New York and the the internet trolls are running wild. mostly of the inso type right wing whack jobs.

I listed to it a couple times and it definitely sounds like a voiced velar stop [g]. Would need to see a spectrogram to confirm and my computer is in the mail so I'll try to figure it out on my phone.

Imagine if any of those racist dog-whistling right-wing broadcasts actually came out and said the n-word that everyone knows they mean?

Lol. This would be a nice try if there wasn't a perfectly clear audio recording of what she said.

Whether it is a [k] or [g] I'm still trying to figure out but there is zero chance that the vowel was [æ] as oppoed to [ɪ]. So no chance she said "knackers" [nækɘɹz]. It was either [nɪgɘɹz] or [nɪkɘɹz]
But all of the android spectrogram software is awful so I'll need to wait until tomorrow.
I'm pretty sure it was a g though I just want to see that voice bar visually.

More from the real life conversation files:
I told a 7 year old she could ask me anything and I'd tell her the truth and so she asked me if Santa Claus was real. I told her no [just a hoax] and she wanted to know where presents came from so I told her they came from her parents. She started to object and her stepdad chimed in from the other room to say that Santa was in fact real. She asked me again and now I was in a tough spot so I didn't say anything but gave her a look that said that I wasn't lying. She told me to "use my words" but I didn't want to call her stepdad a liar so I just shook my head. All of her subsequent AMA questions were rather vapid as could be expected.

I'm supposed to lie? I had no idea what she was going to ask.
But if she is asking me that then obviously she has doubts. It's better to teach people to question things.
Although your reaction isn't unexpected. You love your illusions after all.

Idk. I found out when I was 6 that Santa wasn't real. And had I asked someone then I wouldn't want them to lie to me. (Especially if the person said ask me anything and I won't lie)
How old were you guys? Maybe that's the problem here.
You'll probably be shocked to hear that I tell her that not everything she learns at school is the truth either and that while her teachers aren't outright lying, that they don't know everything.
Sadly the "You can vote red or you can you can vote blue, but voting is something we all have to do" piece of propaganda that she got in kindergarten I no longer have saved in my pictures but that was a gem.
Found it

Kids are taught all manner of bullshit unfortunately.

So I'll give a little bit of the backstory. The mom is the bigoted Brazilian. The stepdad is the really smart Jordan-Peterson-liking engineer, and the 7 year old I used to babysit for 12 hours/day when she was three--so I've already been a pretty big influence in her life. They had another kid who is now 9 months old, and due to their work schedules needed help with babysitting in the mid-afternoon for a couple hours a day and basically begged me to come to live with them for a few months until the grandma comes from Brazil. [We're actually all going there and then the grandma is coming to the US and I'm staying there and can live at the grandma's place]. And well, you get what you pay for.
Now the 7 year old is one of my favorite people and I'm like a godfather type person for her. Also yesterday while walking the dog she said to me: "why would you rather watch birds than pay attention to your daughter?" Me: "I don't have a daughter". Her: "your fake daughter" (referring to herself of course). So it's like that.
So let's say I'm definitely not a huge ******* and me telling her that Santa isn't real caused zero drama. She didn't go into her room crying and we continued to hangout for another hour after that.
And as for me, like I said, I found out when I was 6 so I was younger than her and I'll always remember where I was and that it was my cousin who told me. He was like 9 at the time and said "you know Santa isn't real, right?" And I took it just fine. And I'm a firm believer that not believing in fairy tales--both the kid and the adult versions--is an important step in personal psychological development.
So my questions for you Trolly are 1) At what age did you stop believing in Santa Claus or do you still? 2) Are there any other things that you think I should lie to children about when they ask me? And 3) do I still sound like a huge *******?

LB, I don't think you're an ******. But fairy tales are part of being a kid and I think its best left up to the parents on how to handle them.

I'd suggest lying if they ask you whether or not we landed on the moon or if the WTC was a controlled demolition.

I'm not sure I want to know what you answer was/would be when she asks you how we makes babies...
Hopefully that's the only child you babysat.

Because everyone who disagrees with you politically is a sexual pervert and/or child molester? Is this what you think?
Eta: probably projection of course

Now this is a tricky spot. I fully realize of course that I'm not her parent and leaving aside the question of whether fairytales should be a part of being a kid, you also have to remember that her mom is a bigot and while her stepdad (biological father complety out of picture) is really smart, when he gets home from work he watches Pardon the Interruption and with her will watch MTV's Ridiculousness. I, otoh, teach her about birds and nature, how to skip rocks, and try to offer her sounder advice than "don't go for that Filipino kid go for the Chinese boy because they are smarter". And while they do their best, they lack intellectual curiosity and I have to assume that part of doing their best is having me around to influence her.

She knows about 9/11. Not about 9/11--but that it was a event that happened. There is a series of kids books called I Survived that does fictionalized first hand narratives propagandizing about historical events that her teacher has. It apparently includes stuff on "who did it" and I didn't ask her if it named the PNAC crew.
A few days ago she wanted to watch educational stuff for kids "about the presidents" and I had to veto it in favor of what I considered actual educational material and she got a little upset with me.

In my humble opinion, a seven-year-old with the awareness to even ask if Santa is real is ready to know the truth.
