You didn’t eat your box of reading comprehension this morning, that’s for sure

My brother in Christ, you just told us you don't watch MSM but also you gave us your thoughts on how the BBC has declined.

its pro-Palestine bc the democratic nature of it brings the truth out. ofc Musk and the rest of the powerful are trying to change that.

It's not any more "Democratic" than any other social media platform.

I have been saying for a long time that going after TikTok alone is not the correct play. The correct play is to outlaw the practices for all companies.

Having said that, I absolutely believe that a hostile nation having access to that kind of an app is far more dangerous than a businessman. The reason I believe that is not because of "Pro-Palestinian content". That is a drop in a bucket compared to what they can do with that kind of influence. One of the most terrifying things imo was that TikTok is designed to shorten attention spans, to target youths, and to send youths down rabbit holes. Meanwhile Douyin, the Chinese version of the app, does not allow people under a certain age to use the app after a certain time, content is interrupted by something positive like a science channel every certain amount of scrolls, and doomscrolling is not enabled as there's a limit.

There's far more worrisome stuff than pro-Palestine content being broadcast on it. I understand this is the Israel Palestine thread, so that's what gets focused on, but calling TikTok a national security threat goes far beyond that.

"BBC used to be decent but I’ve heard the slipped." is a baffling thing for you to say if you've never watched the BBC, but whatever, your hearsay-based media critique is noted.

You've just put forward an argument for why an app controlled by a hostile nation is less toxic than an app controlled by a business?

Yes I believe so, although it doesn't really matter. As I said in the first sentence, they both need be outlawed.

Also true. It’s a very left leaning app. Conservatives get roasted for the most part.

Kind of surprised by the ICJ ruling, in a good way. Think them recognizing Israel's right to defend itself and not ordering a cease fire trends towards the best case they could have possibly ruled (if you're Israel).

15:2 vote is pretty decisive too

The guard rail language on top seems humane. No issue there.

I would not be surprised at all if the Tik Tok algorithm is actively being nudged in directions the CCP thinks would be beneficial to them at our expense. For example, Tik Tok is generally more positive of Trump than Biden; but Trump certainly doesn't have any positions or values that Tik Tok's younger, more liberal user base would align with better. It could all be organic, but no guarantee.

they told Israel to stop the "war". not a cease-fire. they were ordered to literally stop killing Palestinians.

My guess is China is mostly hands off on TikTok algo but censors some things (Taiwan, Xinnie, HK, Xinjiang, Putin, etc.)

It doesn’t take a lot for the algo to “automatically” learn such content is a dead end in terms of viewership and voila we got CCP induced bias.

I listened to it. And I just listened again.

"In relation to the Palestinians in Gaza take all measures within its powers to prevent in particular a) the killing members of the group. "

You support a genocidal regime. You could rethink your positions and change.
