looks like they tried to route the "deferred prosecution" type settlement through the judiciary rather than the federal doj so that it wouldn't be as politicized(particularly because its 24 months that goes into the next presidential term) and she felt uncomfortable with that novel idea. the gun charge is similar to a deferred probation where if you're good for a certain time(24 months) they later drop the charges, i assume both parties are wary of Joe Biden losing an election and then the next administration having their hooks into Hunter because of this deal, so they tried to make it so only the judge was in charge of his "probation".


these simply aren't charges that ever normally warrant jail time, so it's kind of insane to think that he's getting any kind of sweet heart deal.

It seems the judges concern is whether this is actually legal or not, and not whether the deal itself was too lenient.

Anyways, I dont really see alone arguing he is being undercharged for the tax violations. The argument is there are much more serious allegations that are not being addressed at all (and the tax charges are more or less a smoke screen), namely that him and Joe were directly bribed by foreign actors to influence Joe's decisions on foreign policy.
