Two centuries ago, a somewhat obscure Scotsman named Tytler made this profound observation:

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship."

Trump accepts his electoral defeat and is now playing the long game to install his Son-in-law (who many Christians believe to be the Antichrist as he is tasked with brokering a Middle East peace deal and he owns a Manhattan skycraper with a 666 fifth avenue address) as dictator so he can rule from behind the throne like Tywin Lannister.

Trump Monday: I will sign COVID relief bill if it passes.

Trump Wednesday: I will likely veto COVID relief bill.

How are the bartenders who voted for Trump feeling now?

He's already running for 2024 is all.

Also, I believe the GOP is trying to win the Georgia run off and acting like they didn't just try to kill off half their constituents by employing heard immunity concepts during a pandemic.

The conservative voters are the most despicable human beings imo.
They rail for years against government hand outs and then cut to the front of the line when they can get some free cheese.

Also, I don't say lolTrump ever. That man is a winner. lolUs.

I still think he would have gotten smoked if he made the speech before the election. I think people overestimate how meaningful any one thing Trump says is at this point, and underestimate how much he drowns himself out (excluding his existing base) with his daily barrage of verbal diarrhea.

I haven't been following much lately. Why is Trump pushing for $2k now, when $600 was landed?

Odd that a 200 year old Scott would speak of a dictatorship.

Not odd at all that someone would mindlessly pass on a fake quote on the internet.

Both chambers spent however much money coming up with this garbage and the end result is spending money all over the place and giving $600 (to eligible) people? What is $600 going to do for anyone?

5600 pages =11+ reams of paper. lololololololololololol.

And yes, I realize (qualifying) families of 4 or whatever get more than $600.

The government funding is also part of the bill so the government will shutdown too unless they do another short term funding bill.

That is true in the beginning and for a long time, but eventually the plebes realize that and question why they have to work for a living, "why can't we get free money as well?" That realization is finally starting to happen now. In a democracy you have to be one of the early parasites feeding at the public trough, once everyone becomes a parasite then the host has to die.

Interesting analogy.

The rich exploiting the poor by profiting from the labor of the poor is parasitic, yes.

But the poor wanting back their rightful value that they themselves generated is more like the host, aka the 99.9%, needs a ventilator, extra white blood cells, and a vaccine to destroy and prevent future infection.

There is no reliable record of Alexander Tytler's having written any part of the text.[20] In fact, it actually comprises two parts which didn't begin to appear together until the 1970s. The first paragraph's earliest known appearance[21] is in an op-ed piece by Elmer T. Peterson in the 9 December 1951 The Daily Oklahoman, which attributed it to Tytler:

Two centuries ago, a somewhat obscure Scotsman named Tytler made this profound observation: "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy".[22]

The list beginning "From bondage to spiritual faith" is commonly known as the "Tytler Cycle" or the "Fatal Sequence". Its first known appearance was in a 1943 speech by Henning W. Prentiss, Jr., president of the Armstrong Cork Company and former president of the National Association of Manufacturers, delivered at the February 1943 convocation of the General Alumni Society of the University of Pennsylvania. The speech was subsequently published under the titles "The Cult of Competency"[23] and "Industrial Management in a Republic".[24] "

You've made the claim twice now that the problem is democracy.

Do you have any actual examples of a democracy imploding because the "plebes" voted themself all the monies ?

Also, can you contrast that with other types of government and their life cycles ?

If not, feel free to repeat gems of internet wisdom. This is, after all, the internet.

This doesn't just happen in democracies. For most of human history small empires would eventually have all the plebes in debt to the king. Being so deep in dept to a king that could never be repaid causes a heroic revolutionary to rise up among the people and overthrow the king. The heroic revolutionary becomes the new king and absolves all debt gaining loyalty from the people.

Then the new king's ancestor's put all the serfs in debt over the decades to fund their higher standards of living and the cycle repeats. My source for this is 'Debt the first 5000 years' by David Graeber

Some ancient kings were wise to this cycle and had debt jubilees roughly every seven years.
