Oh cool, six weeks for all news channels to pretend this will be close. Still, if they can pretend there was still a title race after that one weekend where Arse and Plop both lost then I guess they'll manage

I'll be a one-issue voter for this one. Environment and likelihood to deliver on it (so not voting tory under any circumstances, then couldn't deliver a baby if they were 11 months pregnant).

I was wondering if they would still try to replace sunak either to stop a GE or to lead them into it. They have to be eyeing up some deal with reform.

I think their biggest problem is who?

Sunak getting absolutely drenched in the pissing rain while d:ream plays over his speech is a great moment.

The problem for the Tories is who is there? The three main contenders (Modraunt, Braverman and Badenoch) are all relatively inexperienced and might prefer a few years as LotO to cut their teeth, than to be thrust into a potentially career derailing GE where you are hoping to hit a 1-outer.

Sunak's speech was pretty good, and I think he'll bounce once he goes h2h with Starmer. Best realistic scenario is likely a hung parliament, but the Tories are masters of self-preservation so who knows.

The name doing the rounds when this was first floated a month or two back was Patel.

Hard to believe I know, but then again when you look at the options all that’s left is scrapings from the bottom of the barrel.

I got told ITT that the UK had good speech protections. Not as strong as the American 1a, but pretty solid.

Explain this pls?

Now, back to more serious matters.

We do have pretty good speech protections. Also excellent gun protections.

No silly usa style ammendments here.

The article you posted says it was a planning consent issue. This suggests the problem would have been with any flag, and wasn’t related to the EU flag specifically.

Class H presumed consent for display of the EU flag under the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007 was withdrawn in 2021, since the UK is no longer a member and the flag doesn't come under that head, but the lady should obviously apply for discretionary consent and meanwhile tell the council where to get off, since it's evident she is being harassed by a wonky neighbour. My late parents used to have a neighbour who, throughout the Grand Prix season (which is most of the year), flew the flag of whichever country was hosting the next Formula 1 race. Except in regard to the British Grand Prix (for which he flew the Union Jack), none of those flags had Class H presumed consent, but nobody in the neighbourhood was such a malicious, obsessive and senseless busybody as to snitch to the council about it.
