Understood. Thus my original point.
If liberals doing that is a good thing, then conservatives (or libertarians) doing the same thing is also a good thing.
I don't think either of those options is good, because it destroys the basic concept of an independent judicial branch.
And I am well aware that no judiciary is ever completely independent of politics, though there are many examples of judges taking stances that the POTUS who nominated that justice would have opposed. (Gorsuch on civil asset forfeiture is a recent example; Kelo v. City of New London is a prime example, where the "conservative" justices dissented in favor of the little guy and the "liberals" sided with the government/corporate hegemony)
