He had a record of moving such candidates during his time as chairman of the judiciary panel, he said.

“Some critics say that one excerpt of my speech is evidence that I oppose filling a Supreme Court vacancy in an election year,” Mr. Biden said. “This is not an accurate description of my views on the subject.”

My thoughts and prayers will be with you in the very unlikely event that the Dems ever fight back properly and actually do it.

The Dems failure to 'play dirty' tit-for-tat with the Reps has altered the country's trajectory towards more injustice and suffering, and less freedom than there would be otherwise.

If by "fight back properly" you mean rip up the US Constitution and try to install a socialist dictatorship, then, yeah, we'd all be up a creek.

And no need to pray for me, I'm an atheist.

No actually here only one side is playing dirty and you’re chuffing about how the other side is destroying the Constitution.

Stanning for a side is not a good look.

I'll be happy to call out a right-wing poster on his side's attacks on the constitution as soon as I see one praising such an action ITT.

I take this to mean you feel the Republicans have ripped up the US Constitution and installed an authoritarian dictator. (Since I said tit-for-tat.)

You do get that increasing the number of SCOTUS justices and nominating liberal federal judges isn’t unconstitutional, right?

It'll be ok, the Rs will raise it to 49 when they win [something] back.

Understood. Thus my original point.

If liberals doing that is a good thing, then conservatives (or libertarians) doing the same thing is also a good thing.

I don't think either of those options is good, because it destroys the basic concept of an independent judicial branch.

And I am well aware that no judiciary is ever completely independent of politics, though there are many examples of judges taking stances that the POTUS who nominated that justice would have opposed. (Gorsuch on civil asset forfeiture is a recent example; Kelo v. City of New London is a prime example, where the "conservative" justices dissented in favor of the little guy and the "liberals" sided with the government/corporate hegemony)

And what if I told you that conservatives aren’t doing what liberals do? That they are in fact refusing to vote on Democratic nominees while Dems allow Republican justices to be confirmed? Would you still conclude both sides are equally bad?

You'll get no argument from me on that point. The savaging of the Constitution has gone on for generations. The power and scope of government is far beyond what the founders envisioned for a free society.

But going from the frying pan on the right into the fire on the left is going from one form of oppression to another.

Yes. You're cherry-picking one issue.

Wouldn't write Biden off just yet. Old people and black voters still like Joe. He's well ahead in most of the southern state polls, and right there in most of the others.

Warren def running the best campaign so far, especially considering she started well behind Biden and Sanders. But one surprise result in Iowa (a win for Biden, Bernie, or even Buttigieg), could upend the whole race.

I'll give you this- I NEVER vote for Democrats. But the GOP isn't the only alternative.

I've variously rooted for Marianne Williamson, Corey Booker, Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, and Elizabeth Warren up till now. But Trump's despicable smear campaign now has me rooting for Joe Biden. I think Joe is holding back right now to allow the focus to stay on Trump's impeachable conduct. But when the time is right Joe will answer back with a fury that will surprise a lot of people. Biden doesn't want to fight the other Dems. He wants a fight with Trump and Trump has given him the high ground from which to launch barrage after barrage.

Ugh.
Better to say you don't care who the democratic nominee is.

Yes, Biden is a great buy right now, similar to the fools who thought Trump was a sell when he dropped down to 20% after an onslaught of newwwzzzz. I just wonder what would happen to Biden's price if the news on him starts to fade away?
