If this gas can only be dispersed in a tiny area then hundreds or thousands of planes would be everywhere all the time (noticed by a lot more than a handful of fringy conspiracyderps) doing it or if it can be released and it spreads over a huge area then they can just do it in unpopulated areas and at night.

As stated above, even if somehow these gasses cannot be made invisible (LOL on that) you still have some fairly significant business hurdles to overcome with this silly belief. Guessing you will not have direct answers for that because you never answer directly, and if need be you can say that the non invisible gasses they release(LOL) also control the ability to remember seeing them, except people like you who have plot armor.
