For what is worth, over 8000 banks are linked using the SWIFT network. A routing number (also known as ABA number) is only used for transfers inside the US.
If your wire works without the SWIFT is because the entity/bank initiating the transfer looks up what SWIFT code belongs to the receiver bank.
If the transfer is done entirely inside the US (or Europe) then a SWIFT is not necessary but it doesn't mean that the bank itself is not hooked up to the SWIFT network
since the OP is mentioning IBAC and BIC, I imagine that he is based in Europe, all European banks I've dealt with have SWIFT codes (SWIFT itself is based in Belgium), but to be sure the only way is to contact FT and ask them for clarification, perhaps they issue European wires via an Euro account..which would then not need a SWIFT code at all
