What kind of live events are you planning to play in 2010?

Well, PCA for sure, then probably 80% for sure playing Monte Carlo, then 30+ WSOP events (hopefully I can do better than my 0 for 37 performance from last year...lol variance). Will probably play the 50k horse at the WSOP this year (I heard it might be a 50k 8-game this year, but will likely play it either way...in fact I'd prefer the 8-game format). Those are the only definite ones. Other than that I'll likely mix in some EPTs and LAPTs here and there. If I lived in Europe I'd probably play every EPT that went but it's just so hard to travel that far that often from the States.

what are your motivations towards playing live tournaments? Fame, money, soft competition, travel opportunities? If it's all of the above, rate them in importance

Anyways, that mtt schedule sounds sick, I wish you the best of luck!

Eh I mean if I just wanted to grind $ all year I wouldn't play tournaments at all. I probably have a higher hourly EV in the games I play online than I do in most live tournaments, and obviously way less variance. I think the biggest reasons I play them are to make excuses to go places I wouldn't otherwise go on vacations, and also just to break up the monotony of grinding online all year.

I'm not going to lie, it would be awesome to actually do go in/win one for reasons that go beyond the money. But I wouldn't really care if I never won one either. It's really not a huge deal to me.

But my results in live mtts are just awful so far. Maybe I have the due factor going for me? Haha I dunno.

Oh I just saw you wanted me to rate them...in order of most important to least important...travel opportunities, money, soft competition (this is basically the same thing as money I think), fame. The fame would be neat up to a point I suppose but I definitely would be annoyed if I was someone like Moneymaker in the poker world where you can't go anywhere without being hounded by people asking for autographs or pictures. I'm kind of a private person in general. I don't mind being social but I have to do it in small spurts, otherwise I just get really annoyed. I almost didn't do this thread in the first place because I thought it would be kind of annoying but I've actually enjoyed it way more than I thought I would (obviously I must be because I'm still answering questions a year after I started it ).

In a good hour where the games are going I can get in 200 games or slightly more.

Just checked, and the hour before today's sunday mil started I got in 203.

Do you think you could ever go back to a standard format poker game or are you too much of an action junkie now?

I'm not really sure. Like if stars got rid of them I'm sure I'd be fine playing something else, but every once in a while I play a few regular turbo sngs and they seem so darn slow now.

They're under tourney->satellite but they only run before events are about to start.

Where were you hiding in Costa Rica... I know you get the upgraded suites with your own pool... but comon us regular folks wanted to have a beer with you. How'd you make out in the tourney?

I doubled up like 15 minutes into the tourney then went steadily downhill for about 6 hrs until i got it in with aq vs ak and lost. After that I mostly hung out with the wife. On the last day we went on a zip line tour in the mountains. I had my share of beer/alcohol but not with any poker players.

The resort was really nice compared to the previous Costa Rica venue, I will definitely be going back if they do it there again.

I thought the resort was outstanding and the food was great. Having food at the tourney was a first for me... Definitely going back next year... and I even made it inside the bubble so I can't complain one bit. Next year comon down to the avg. joe pool though. There were a lot of players who wanted to meet you. Are you going to Uruguay? I think I'm going but I heard it's a huge pain to get there. Ziplining.... didn't get a chance to do that. Next year.

Thoughts on Sly Caveat?

Do you have any special process for unregistering for the tickets you win? Ever get stuck playing the nightly 100K or anything because you won entry and it was too late to unregister?

Sly Caveat seems like a nice person. Seriously these questions are hard to answer for me because if you are doing things wrong I probably wouldn't want to point them out to you. Having said that you seem to play well enough from what I've noticed.

I'm not going to answer any more questions about how I think people play in this thread. It's just kind of an awkward situation for me.

As for unregistering, if I don't actually want to play the target tournament, I just quit registering for the hypers like 15-20 minutes before the tournament is set to go off. I've gotten stuck in a few tourneys that I didn't want to play because one random hyper goes for 18 minutes or whatever, and yeah it's kind of annoying. When this happens and I end up in a tournament that I didn't want to play when I was wanting to end my session, I usually just sit out for an hour and then come back to the computer to try to run up a 20bb stack or whatever.

Not doing Uruguay, too far to travel unless I was making a real vacation out of it.

What football team do you root for? When you were sports betting to make money did you ever make -ev bets because of your liking of a team?

If you were 13 months into Iron Man on full tilt. And are making a few thousand a month in the games you play. Would you say stay put or would you take the risk of going after SNE if you only had a 4k net worth at the moment but are able to 24 table lhe.

I can't believe I just read the whole thread. You are an interesting and seemingly good guy.

Thanks, Tyler

My only Q:

Will this well (which started 1-1-09) continue on to the next decade?

I root for the Cardinals and Saints (I'm from Louisiana originally and live in Arizona now). Pretty much the first time ever that both teams were good in the same year, so nice year to root for both of them.

When I was betting "professionally" I never made -ev bets on purpose, but now sometimes I'll bet a few hundred on a game with a friend if they like the other side, just for fun. I don't really care if a few hundred dollar bet is -ev, at worst it'd cost me 10 or 20 bucks in ev and it's fun to have a sweat on a game.

No idea really on the Iron Man thing. I'm not even familiar enough with the program to have a meaningful opinion on it. Obviously I like the SNE program on stars as it has made me a ton of $ in the last few years. $4k seems really low to go for SNE, but maybe you could play as normal and if you run good at first then go for SNE, and if you run bad at first then rethink where you want to go from there.

Funny you ask this, I was thinking the other day maybe I could do a "grand finale" of questions ending at the end of the year. I didn't really expect it to live this long in the first place when I started it. I'll probably let it live on though.

This is a semi grunch so if you have been asked this questions you can just say already asked and Ill look for it.

How long before you think high stakes SnGs(not counting steps as fish always get up there somehow) become unbeatable? within the next year? And do you think pokerstars will reduce rake on said sngs so some players can gain an edge?

Yeah I already addressed it and it's probably worth it for you to look for it to be honest because whatever I said then will be more relevant than what I would say now. Basically I went through a huge 3-4 month downswing from like Nov08-Feb09 in the turbo sngs and really don't play them that much anymore. I don't know that they're unbeatable necessarily. The problem for me is that I was 20 tabling the highest stakes sngs and maintaining about a 1% roi for a year or 2, but then those last few months I ran at like -3%. So realistically they're definitely still beatable but not for someone like me who relied on 20+ tabling them and not really game selecting at all, mostly relying on rakeback for my profit. Game selection is way more important than it was a couple years ago for sure.

If I ever did go back to them I'd probably play like 10-15 tables or something and select the games pretty carefully. I don't even know that this is feasible though because it's pretty hard to find 10 games at a time at the higher stakes sngs that are worth playing.
