This is breaking news on MSNBC today, that UltimateBet went to sue their software provider for 85 million US$, blaming them for the cheating that happaned over a period of 3 years.

Lot's of 2+2-ers and stuff is cited in this news.

Reading the whole story - serious f***-up and damage for online poker in the face of the recreational fish, IMO. Still, bring up the popcorn, as this twist was at least new to me.

Allegations that cheaters manipulated the software powering a leading Internet poker site so they could see their opponents' hole cards have triggered a $75 million claim against a Canadian company, msnbc.com has learned.

The alleged subterfuge on UltimateBet.com — one of the 10 top poker sites — is the biggest known case of fraud targeting an Internet gambling site and its customers, according to the company that owns the site. It is similar to a case of cheating that occurred last year on UltimateBet’s sister site, AbsolutePoker.com, but this time the thieves ran the scheme for far longer — at least from January 2005 to January 2008, it said.
Sorry if this was already posted elsewhere. I whore mostly the zoo, so I didn't look elsewhere, and tried search for 85 millions but didn't find a thread about this.

Interesting news story. I don't really frequent other forums either.

The claim was filed by Blast-Off Ltd. of Malta, a private company that currently has an ownership interest in Ultimate Bet.
Hmm.. So much for Tokwiro owning UB and AP...

If they won, how much of the $85m would they give back to the victims? I'm guessing 0%.

It says later on in the article that Tokwiro and Blast-Off Ltd. are basically one and the same.

I'm encouraged to see Blast-Off take some legal action here... This is probably the most positive thing that AP/UB have done since the AP scandal broke.

Doesn't Tom Scott or AJ Green work for Blast-Off?

So the cheaters are now suing the software company that allowed them to cheat in the first place.

Didn't they already pay the victims back?

i believe they have stated that everyone has been paid back in full, but I know that many people are still saying they have gotten nothing, that UB wont give out HHs from the period, and that they are still with holding info.

Why is this ridiculous? WTF, how is this anything but a good sign?

Also, afaik UB has never said they have paid everyone back... in fact I believe they've said the opposite and there will be another round of payouts "soon".

there is already a thread in nvg

it's kind of funny/sad that someone involved in this scandal (annie duke) was chosen to speak in front of congress to represent the poker industry.
