I am pretty sure their were many threads and posts about the US going off market sooner or later.

We actually said "poker" will still be there...not "online". Going to college as an older student, I missed out on a lot of opportunities, experiences, etc... that go along with going to college at an earlier age. There are experiences that you will truly miss out on, not the education. Yes the education will always be there, but it's everything surrounding it that you will miss out on by putting it off to later in life that you just can't do like you can when you are young. Besides, most people that say they will go to college later in life or go back to school never do, especially if they find a career path where they are successful right away (like poker). There is stuff inside an education you will never get from the real world, doors in your mind that will be opened that you didn't even know existed...shame for people that miss out on that because of money. Just my thoughts

Bloomberg article. The indicted people's trials are moving forward. I am optimistic and wouldnt be surprised if they paid a large but affordable fine and were able to operate in the US again.

Not sure if this was posted yet.
Just some entry numbers of some Sunday tournaments and how losing the US affected them.

*Sigh*

All of the banks used to process these payments have a restraining order on them. There have been many, many posts from folks who have had their deposited checks either bounce or actually reversed. You're going to have hang on to the check and contact the site in question about it. Then you're going to have to wait.

I was pretty sure the law was just that Australian companies couldn't offer online poker to Australians, but ones based elsewhere were fine.

That law is why Merge was closed to Australians for the longest time AFAIK.

This is extremely alarming to me and what it implicates about the PPA...

"This is exactly what the industry was trying to prevent, when it set out to block enforcement of a law designed to ban internet games or to get the law repealed. Interviews show that the companies charged, while foreign-based, have indirectly been paying more than half of the lobbying and operating bills for a non-profit that is championing internet gambling in America."

It isn't. Nobody is going to try stop a citzen playing. No government has an interest in it apart from a filtering plan which seems to of died down of late.

It is about the gambling freeze. It is talking about companies offering the service.

Centrebet is another example.

If was illegal those companies certainly wouldn't be running from our shores. The fact is they can't get a licence cause of the gambling freeze. However betfair is an exception and managed to get a sportsbetting one via Tasmania. So maybe that is a loophole for future companies although they paid a lot of money for it.

this seems like it should fall more under the category of "obvious" than "extremely alarming", why wouldn't the sites with the most to gain by legalizing online poker in the US fund the PPA? I mean stars even ran PPA membership freerolls for a while.

Mr. Frank, in an interview Monday, said he has no plan to back down. “It is a bad law,” he said. “How is it possible that a United States attorney in New York does not have anything more to do than indict people for a full house? He should be indicting people for the empty houses we have around,” referring to the troubles in the mortgage industry.

A+ line there tho ^^

She seemed to be trying to encourage him to explicitly state that there is no law disallowing the sites from paying the players what they owe them, but the DOJ is interfering. Instead we got a muddled interview, uncharacteristic of Pappas.

Wouldn't this be a good time for those charged to challenge the validity and constitutionality of the "gambling act" that was tacked to the "Safe Port Act."

What I mean is, "have a Judge rule on whether it should have been passed as a separate piece of legislation." I have always heard that it couldn't have been passed as a "stand alone" law, but was stuck on a bill that had to be passed by Congress at the last minute in a session.
