Sigh. I was 2 minutes late getting home and missed the registration. Stars effing hates me. Tried to have a buddy register for me on the way home, but he was already playing a bazillion tables and didn't really have time to do it.

Sandviper, the 20k is still there. Hope you found it, make sure you don't have it filtered out somehow.

The 50k is now worth less than $40. Scotty said when they started the freerolls, they had the prizepool in mind for ~1000 runners. Maybe we'll see a bump at some point in the near future now that there are many more players than that, which really dilutes its' value. Do you guys remember when the VIP freerolls started, Supernovas were getting $100 a pop in value? And there were only a couple of hundred runners, so they didn't take up a whole Saturday and there wasn't the mega-variance associated with extremely large tournament fields? Oh well, enough whining for now.

Good luck all.

Thinking they've been keeping these tourneys the 'same' (less and less value for the most part) so that they can add value to other stuff including more frequently Supernova overlay type satellites and stuff like that.
I'm not looking for Stars to add value to the $50k's anymore.
At $40 a week I feel no obligation to make it and it's no big deal if I'm in or not. If anything, I'm hoping the $50k tourneys continue to LOSE value if that means extra value being put into other things (which I think it might).

The bolded part is kind of how I feel now. If I miss that Saturday tournaments, it's not a big deal because it's only $40. Of course, that opinion probably only represents a small group of players who are in the same bankroll range as you and I. For some players, that $40 is pretty darn valuable and you'll see a bunch of Gold and Platinum Stars actually spending frequent player points trying to get a seat. For some other players who play much higher, the tournaments weren't even worth their commitment when they were at their peak.

If value is put into other things, I hope it's not just other tournaments and satellites.

pokerboy and mbob,

Its a $40 face value, but there are a number of players that register and never play and some that donk off in the first 10 minutes to try to double up or leave.

I think overall the play in the 50k is much worse than the play in a regular $40 buyin, therefore making it easier to make the money and giving it some extra value.

I don't agree.

I think the play is pretty comparable to a $50 tournament.

1p0kerboy - Except that you don't normally have that many people sitting out in a $50 tournament.
I sometimes don't even show up until 30-40 minutes into the thing and some people don't show up at all.
You very rarely will have 3 or 4 people sitting out at a table at the beginning of a regular tourney.

I agree that it's valuable to some players. Let the platinums and golds have their fun with their FPP's and trying to qualify and stuff like that. And since it's a VIP tourney I should get to play it too if I want.
I know people who strive to get to gold or plat or whatever so that they can spend their VPP's trying to qualify for the HUGE $50k prize-pool tourney. So if they are digging it then let them keep going at it like that. More power to Stars and for getting the little players excited about something and keeping them at the tables trying to reach plat or whatever.

Hated the system before. Now I love it. Go figure. It's no big deal to miss it now and I really don't care about it. And I do think they are giving us more of the Supernova value in other things like the big overlay satellites that they occasionally run (and that's quite a bit of value in there and they are running a lot of those it seems) as well as all the milestone stuff and other things.

Back in the day when the Supernova weekly tourney had such a small field and had such a high value it was also at a time when there were no Elites or milestones or anything like that. Would WAY rather have all the milestones and the bigger overlay satellites than for my little $40 weekly tourney to become a $100 value or something (at which point I would start to feel a greater obligation to go out of my way to play the thing).
