I just changed my avatar on stars (for the stox promotion) and am wondering how long it takes for it to appear? I know it says within 5 days, but I'm just getting a bit antsy to try out stoxpoker..

what promotion?

Im assuming its something like use their avatar get a couple free months?

I love this stuff cuz it makes it easy to identify who is actually trying to work on their game. Its even better on stars cuz you only get one avatar change, so you are branded for life. Definitely -EV

you can find details on the promotion here:

Many, myself included would disagree with alobar's assessment of the EV of the promotion.

I've seen some pretty bad players with stoxpoker avatars, but I agree I wouldn't be too crazy about promoting myself as a motivated player.

these avatars wont be allowed by Stars. They are trying to rid their site of all avatars that contain a .com on them

This is, in my experience, completely false.

what, that you only get one change or that its -EV?

Sure ive seen plenty of crap players with galfond avatars or some other .com poker site avatar, but the simple fact is that the moment I sit down with you I can instantly make at least some sort of read on you with an avatar like that, whereas you have absolutely nothing on me. I'd love to hear a good reason as to how this isnt -EV other than "I disagree". Even if my read is just "crappy fish who's too broke to pay for a month of stoxpoker" its still more info than I would have otherwise.

Once you get to Nova, they'll let you change your avatar whenever.

You get "one official" change but if you are a good customer and are very nice in your request you can get more than ONE change

It usually doesn't take 5 days, normally it's a lot quicker than that. BTW I have also heard that you are only allowed one avator change per account.

two quick points.

having an avatar like this may or may not be -EV. Having an avatar like be your "price" for a stoxpoker subscription would, I think, more than offset any -EV the avatar causes.

In other words, the average subscriber improves plenty enough to offset any -EV from the avatar.

oh, no doubt your site will definitely improve them more than the -EVness of the avatar,by a mile. but thats not the cost of the avatar, the cost of the avatar is only one months fee, and I definitely think the EV is more than $25 (or whatever a month is)

At first whenever I saw this avatar I assumed TAG, yet they always end up being like 38/7 or something (at limit 6max)

It was about the avatar change. I have changed my avatar 3-4 times in the past 6 months on Stars, and I'm not Nova.

interesting. Stars denied me changing my avatar, and my last and only avatar change was almost 2 years ago

I agree with Alobar. Improving your game does not offset the -EV from having this avatar for life. It's more beneficial to just pay the monthly fee and improve your game.

this thread has an image without .com, not sure how stringently they are enforcing this.

I think you have to email stars and ask to get you avatar changed again...not really sure I've never done it personally
