PS account cleaned out using my FB password PS account cleaned out using my FB password

I stupidly used the same login and password for my facebook, PTR, and 2P2 accounts as my pokerstars account. I had never even heard of the PIN number or RSA key options. Well, this morning at 7 AM, someone logged in and entered a tournament and dumped chips, then dumped the rest at cash tables at limits I would never even think about playing. This really sucks! I would highly recommend using a PIN and probably get the RSA key if you have any significant amount of cash in your account. I am so lucky that I only had about $100 in my account.

Did the reckless scoundrel spew at $.10 / $.20? So sick.

yeah. but thanks to the forums here i was just starting to grind back up at the micros from almost busting out. I steadily lost my initial $600 buying over the course of 10 months. I was down to my last $28 on Feb 1st. Then, with some help from the micro forums and a quick session with a coach (Dylan), I was up 16 BB/ 100 over the last 10k hands at .01/.02 and a solid winner over the last 20k. Now, I've learned cheap that it is essential to lock down this online crap with a unique password, RSA key, and PIN or those greasy third world hackers will find a way to drink my milkshake.

you can be condescending if you want. i understand. but please learn from my misfortune and lock down your ****. i'm just trying to give back to the community that has given me a little bit of knowledge.

by the way, the headline is a little misleading. it is highly probable that facebook was the account that was compromised in some way and that login was used to get into my pokerstars account. they were all the same. however, i was experiencing a lot of network drop offs when logged into pokerstars for several days before this incident. ???? who knows. but i will definitely be using an RSA key and a unique password in the future, no matter how small my bankroll is.

Unless the password was super generic ("password") or closely related to your account name, it was probably hacked by someone you know.

it was not a dictionary password and not used by anyone in my household. the behavior is kind of strange, though. not sure if i can deduce a motive from this:

sorry, i just be hatin' right now. i had my ATM stolen on new years eve from my business. funny huh? i certainly don't believe that an inferior sub-species bound for nuclear incineration at the hands of god's chosen race could possibly be capable of such a sophisticated technological crime.

More info:

Thank you for contacting us.

According to our review, this is what we have confirmed:

-Your account was accessed from a computer with two IP addresses, one from
France and another from The Netherlands; which indicates that the hacker
might be using a disguised IP and accessed your computer via a keylogger
-Funds were lost at the tables, making them impossible to retrieve
-This computer is shared with players 'ogni05' and 'powerlock33'

Please allow us the following information:
*Have you ever downloaded any suspicious software or files?
*What is your relation with these players?

Please send this information at your earliest convenience, along with a
clear copy of your ID; we will also need you to format your computer and/or
run all necessary security measures towards it, in order to get rid of this
software.

For any further questions we will be more than happy to assist you.

this means that your 2p2 account is compromised too.

how do we know it is really you who are writing this?

I think mods should ban you until you have reformatted your hard drive and changed 2p2 password.

Some advice for micro grinders who think the PSA token isnt worth it....

Use Gmail w/ PS. Make sure HTTPS is enabled in the options for gmail. Use the Pstars pin. Use the option where the only way to reset your gmail pw is through the text message service.

just to follow up and inform everyone. i found out eventually that a rogue program running on my computer "KMService" was responsible. I was compromised via keylogging. So, even if I had just been using the PIN option, this could have been prevented. I was not even aware of the optional service, as I had never heard of it. Hopefully more micro players who can't get the RSA key yet will read this and use the PIN option when logging on.
