So Isle of man is not within EU?

I Dont believe this will change much. Even had a friend trying to pay taxes for Stars winnings but were told he didnt need to.

I have played poker for some years and know a lot of grinders in our beloved monarchy. Never heared anyone paid taxes for any winnings from anywhere except the WPT and the WSOP. Although some players (including myself) used to do laundry week sometimes just to be safe. Some sites even told ut how much rake we had to pay to use cashout via bank transfer.

If the servers are not in the EU, the mere license in Malta might make no difference. And who would live or even work in Malta knowing that the flats there figure to suffer from a lack of heating.

@saabou: If this wasn't gambling, you would be right.
None of those two options will be happening, at least not now. France certainly won't change the restrictions and allow french players to join the european pool, and the EU might pass laws that will apply to the entire Union, but not every country will follow them.

France is a specialist when it comes to still applying their own rules and laws on matters that have been legislated on an european level. Most likely, France will eventually join the .eu thing and share the player pool, but not before at least five years.

For example, the tax on poker rooms in France is horrible, 35-40% in cash games, and the method of taxing also leaves little to no benefit to the rooms involved. Whereas Italy for example applies a much smoother, much more logic taxing system, which makes the environment better for everybody. France is way too stubborn to ever change that, and even if the EU came to an agreement regarding the issue, France still wouldn't change it.

It's actually not that simple.

At least in finnish legislation the games have to be "organized in europe" in addition to being licensed in europe and ran by a european company. If the current PokerStars servers are located at Isle of Man, it's gonna be interesting to see what finnish tax agency thinks about it.

There is some speculation in finnish forums if this'd actually make PS taxfree or not, I guess we won't get the final answer before the first players report their winnings after this year and get tax decision on them.

Same here in Sweden. Guess we need some more information before making any educated guesses whether it's tax free or not

Just received a promotional email from Stars specifically stating that my winnings will be tax free because of this change (I'm swedish). Still unsure if it's actually true though.

THIS IS JUST GREAT! I don't know how much you had to pay in taxes in Sweden for your poker winnings, but it was a lot. Finally, FINALLY, I can keep 100% of everything I win. I haven't won anything but when I do, I will keep it all!

So now they decided to move me to pokerstars.eu - out of the blue. Too bad I'm sitting in 11 tournaments and I can't F'n move to pokerstars.eu. I can't play these 11 tournies either because now I'm ONLY allowed to play in pokerstars.eu. Hopefully they refund my buy-ins at least.

Edit. Got email from PS - I need to wait and be blinded out in all my tournaments. They also promised to refund.

they should have done this a long time ago, but anyway glad its here now. Just hoping for ZOOM poker to arrive now!

And btw on the pokerstars.eu site Steve get them to change the promotional deposit bonus banner because they should offer their bonus in € not in usd $..

Site says
on one page in the big banner ( i know there's different bonus currencies offered, but frankly most europeans don't want to have to look at $ usd on a .eu site, its slightly confusing to the average dude on the street.)

Cheers

It's not really confusing given that pretty much everything on Stars is in $$$, especially the majority of the cash tables and mtts.
