Poker, divorce and child maintenance Poker, divorce and child maintenance

My source of income is poker, I live in the UK, am divorced, have 2 kids and my ex-wife says she is going to the CSA to claim money from me. I already pay half of everything for the kids, but this isn't good enough for her.

Does anyone know if she can claim from my winnings. I would guess not because uk poker winnings are non-taxable, but I am not certain.

Anyone know, or have similar experiences?

So you don't want to give money for your kids because you want to gamble them all?

What?
Read the post please, I pay half of everything for my kids, always will. I just don't want to pay extra for her. So please don't get involved unless you have something constructive to add.

Can't find a UK precedent for something like this so it'd be something for the courts to sort out. The CSA can't do anything without a legal precedent on it afaik. Make sure you have a decent lawyer though if she starts threatening to take you to court over it, remember reading Barry Greenstein saying that when he was in your situation his ex's lawyer only wanted to use his winning sessions to calculate his income - as his losing sessions were a result of his "gambling problem".

That is pretty funny if true.

For OP, what are normal child support laws? Breaking up of assets is obviously part of it. I assume your poker bankroll was an asset so would have to be split after devoice.

Honestly if your really worried the best think you can do is go talk to a lawyer about what she could do and what your responsibilites are. Don't rely on 2+2 advice, get something more solid.

It will probably be tough to find a barrister who is experienced both with family law and gambling law.

Gambling law will be irrelevant. Your income is your income so you will be dealt with in exactly the same way as any divorce. Why are you asking an internet gambling forum about a divorce situation. How much accurate information do you think you will receive here about your family situation based on a couple of sentences in your OP?

Seriously, 1st thing is get yourself a solicitor to act for you. If you can't afford it then I can't see your wife will be getting much anyway.

I have a feeling you don't really understand how the CSA works. If you're already paying 'half', your liability would actually be less if she decides to go to the CSA. In other words, let her.

The main reason I posted here was in the hope that someone was in the same position as me, i.e. Internet Poker Pro with a greedy wife who wants more than half of everything for the kids.
I'm not really sure how they could prove my income. I play on stars and could use concierge or VPPs to buy stuff instead of changing the points to cash. I'm not shirking my responsibilities, but refuse to subsidise her Imelda Marcos shoe fetish.
Thanks for the advice anyway, I think I'll see a solicitor this week.
