My two cents.
I'd rather see a long and boring thread filled with boring trades than a shorter thread filled with scams.
It goes like this.
1. Someone posts a trade request.
2. A new account replies via PM, requesting an AIM address.
3. That trade goes nowhere.
4. The OP gets a AIM from 2plus2Yeti, or some other permutation of a respected trader's name, and convinces the OP to send to their account.
5. The scammer signs off.
I won't try to bore you further with the myriad of examples, but here is one where the victim is a long-time member here.

By trading in the open, that would have been averted.
I know, I know, it's not our duty to police the forum. It's not our duty to educate people. The people sending should take the time to research their prospective partner, and so forth. But the reality is that many don't bother.
Scammer's know this, and continue to prey on the lazy and unwary.
I want to help put an end to it, so I consider open trading, with all those information laden extra posts to sift through the price I'll gladly pay to keep things on the level.
Otherwise, I consider it given it tacit approval to scammers. If there is something, anything, I can do about it, especially if its something more akin to a mild inconvenience than a true obstacle, then I consider it my good deed for the day, and time well spent.
I'd like to think that I'm smart enough, and patient enough, and kind enough, to help those in need.
Now I gotta go pee.
