Ha. Yeah, I guess we should sit back and laugh. I would like to try and help people who are going for it this year because the only advice I really got last year was "take a break". It took me until November to really break down (didn't make a single dollar on the felt for three months) and its just funny to see people whining already five days in.

I play mid stakes FR NL. Here are some things I experienced last year, so the rest of you can get an idea.

- I had two stretches where I lost more than 12 consecutive AK vs underpair AIPF for stacks or vice versa "flips". 12 in a row, do the math.

- I had probably 30 sessions where I started off up > 5 buyins and finished down b/c I had to put in hours.

- I had week long stretches where I'd lose every hand. Like literally I'd lose AA / KK in 3b pots every time for a week.

- I had two stretches where I lost money 8 consecutive days. Most of these days I was playing ~5k hands or so. One of these streaks I lost over 2k in 7 of the sessions.

- I can't count on one hand the number of 10 buyin sessions I had. And I lost 25 buyins in under 24 hours. That happened in my best weekend ever. By about 5 p.m. Saturday, I had made more money in a weekend than every before. By noon on Sunday, I was down on the weekend.

- I lost 6 straight 80/20s AIPF for stacks.

- I'm trying to remember the number of KKs I had vs AA in the beginning of the year without having any my way but it was definitely over 10. I remember I started to fold KK pre if I got 3b after raising in early position b/c I ran it into aces so many times.

A lot of you might think I'm exaggerating with this but I'm not. All of these things actually happened and a lot more that I can't think of. I should also add that I'm pretty sure I ran at or above EV for the year so I'm not complaining about these things but merely trying to show that by putting in millions of hands you will experience many statistical anomalies that will not only boggle your mind but will also piss you off and make you hate poker. Like I said earlier, I want to help, so this is my way of saying that to make SNE, you better know what you're getting into and be one hell of a mental approach to the game.

Oh and for those that don't know: Turn off your EV in your HEM. It's a pointless statistic and a mere fractional indicator of how your are running / playing.

15k VPPs, and i seem to be adjusting to 24 tabling pretty well. I was on the fence about going for it this year, but then saw people with jobs, school, families, etc. that either made it last year or are going for it this year. Very inspirational, and made me realize how much I've taken advantage of the freedom this job offers. Good luck to everybody in 2010!!

filter for only 50bb tables, then you won't even know they are there.

Table ninja is my only program running besides Stars.

I was hesitant before to try again which only puts me at 14k vpp. I'm going to try again with a backup computer setup to only lose a couple seconds of time.

The computer was top of the line a year and a half ago. I have no idea why it's not using full ram if that's what it's saying. I'll report back later.
You are using a 32 bit system, it can't utilize 4 GB of RAM. I'm on Windows 7 64 bit and have 8 GB and my system utilizes all of it. Upgrade....

So I just need a Windows 7 64 bit program?

So with the new program, what is everybody's guess as to the number of SNE this year? I think 500 is within reach.

WELL STATED!

I often hear people thinking the deck is juiced ... or ... there are more bad beats online than live. THINK ABOUT IT ... the people who say this often 4-table online-- each at 2.2x the speed of live play (if FR)-- that's 8.8x the hands they get live ... of course they will see 8.8x more of AA and get 8.8x more bad beats than live play given the same amount of time ... turn them into 20 tableing SNE grinders and that's 44x the bad beats per hour.

Good post Jimmy on setting expectations ... well done.

Expect the Ebbs and Flows ... live players sometimes run bad for more than 12 months ... never seen it online, but I am sure it happens too.

Enjoy the grind or serve it ... you really do get to make the choice ya know!

BTW -- I have not played a single hand of Holdem or PLO ring this year (well except a splash of some from 8-game tables for fun) ... and over 75% of my 16k+ VPPs are from ring games. I love to play what I love to play.

KID
