Ha. Yeah, I guess we should sit back and laugh. I would like to try and help people who are going for it this year because the only advice I really got last year was "take a break". It took me until November to really break down (didn't make a single dollar on the felt for three months) and its just funny to see people whining already five days in.
I play mid stakes FR NL. Here are some things I experienced last year, so the rest of you can get an idea.
- I had two stretches where I lost more than 12 consecutive AK vs underpair AIPF for stacks or vice versa "flips". 12 in a row, do the math.
- I had probably 30 sessions where I started off up > 5 buyins and finished down b/c I had to put in hours.
- I had week long stretches where I'd lose every hand. Like literally I'd lose AA / KK in 3b pots every time for a week.
- I had two stretches where I lost money 8 consecutive days. Most of these days I was playing ~5k hands or so. One of these streaks I lost over 2k in 7 of the sessions.
- I can't count on one hand the number of 10 buyin sessions I had. And I lost 25 buyins in under 24 hours. That happened in my best weekend ever. By about 5 p.m. Saturday, I had made more money in a weekend than every before. By noon on Sunday, I was down on the weekend.
- I lost 6 straight 80/20s AIPF for stacks.
- I'm trying to remember the number of KKs I had vs AA in the beginning of the year without having any my way but it was definitely over 10. I remember I started to fold KK pre if I got 3b after raising in early position b/c I ran it into aces so many times.
A lot of you might think I'm exaggerating with this but I'm not. All of these things actually happened and a lot more that I can't think of. I should also add that I'm pretty sure I ran at or above EV for the year so I'm not complaining about these things but merely trying to show that by putting in millions of hands you will experience many statistical anomalies that will not only boggle your mind but will also piss you off and make you hate poker. Like I said earlier, I want to help, so this is my way of saying that to make SNE, you better know what you're getting into and be one hell of a mental approach to the game.
Oh and for those that don't know: Turn off your EV in your HEM. It's a pointless statistic and a mere fractional indicator of how your are running / playing.
