@ JMART, you really shouldn't be surprised that your bank looked into your transactions when you're making 10-12 transactions a month. They most likely investigate any high amount of traffic to a random processor this often, and through some ways came to a decent conclusion that it was online gambling of sorts.

Why so many transactions? Is there really a necessity for depositing/withdrawing that often? If you just move to a new bank and use it only for online poker (separate from your daily account), and don't make transactions every 3 days, I think you'll be fine.
where did op say he made 10 - 12 transactions in a month? if so, he definitely raised a red flag.

I agree that poker is a game of skill. That is irrelevant. If we go to the basketball court and shoot foul shots for $100 a shot thats not gambling because there is skill involved? When you make a wager on an unknown outcome that is called gambling.

If you like your current bank, open up an account at another bank and use that. NEVER use your main account for this.

Best to have a cover story like this committed to memory. This way when the bank calls, there is no hestitation on your part. Makes the sell go through.

Under no circumstance do you ever admit that the funds are being used for gambling. Banks don't want the risk. Tell them what they want to hear (ie legal stock trades). Good luck
this basically

It is absolutely helarious that a bank would make this kind of call based on any type of ethical situation at this point in time. They litterally bent over US citizens over the last number of years. They should be doing everything they can to keep customers not harrassing them. As a Canadian citizen I'm not well versed in poker legislation in the US - but still, something seems off.

Post #18. He said that this was normal to make 10-12 transactions, both deposits and withdrawals, per month.

This is probably the reason why he got the call.

this is the stupidest effing thing I have ever heard; I know visa doesn't like this thing but it is bs

banks are ok with it when you go to the casino and withdraw using casino atms paying all kinds of friggin fees; that is ok I guess

I was speaking to my cable company once as my internet service went down while I was playing a tourney; the guy at the other end told me that online poker is actually against their policy?

as well, the internet companies don't really guarantee you a 100% connectivity service so if you lose a huge pot because the connection goes down, they can't be blamed LOL

find a new bank and limit the amount of transactions you are putting through imo

That's because it's not against the law. It's illegal for banks to send money to a gambling site on your behalf.

Which banks don't block poker transactions?

As this is an open forum, we don't post the names of banks, cards or other FSPs that are working. Posting the name here might alert someone in the banking industry or government. If you know of an FSP that works, you can offer to provide the name by PM to regular 2+2 posters.

The banks are trying to cover their asses. They feel the need to comply with the regulations that stipulate that they are not allowed to process transactions with online poker sites. When it comes down to it, its not the individual bank's fault, they're just complying with the rules.

I can't even read this thread, it should just be deleted.

OP is an idiot, can't lie to your bank..why? And why is that so "obvious".
Western Union is your only option..there's no other banks where you live?

This thread should be delted

I tell the manager I have been doing it for years and there has never been a problem. The manager then tells me that although he doesn't know if what I am doing is illegal or not, they don't want to be associated with online gambling and that if I don't stop using my bank account for those purposes, my account will be closed.

Has anyone ever had this happen to them before? Kind of scary and I guess my only option now is to do Western Union deposits and withdrawl through paper checks?
You don't have to lie but don't be so blunt. I would just tell them I purchased something off the internet which you did, you purchased "virtual chips". Much like people who buy/sell things for online video games your merely purchasing a virtual product when you deposit weather it be virtual poker chips, virtual video game currency, a virtual level 1000 dwarf, a virtual blowjob or virtual bidding credits etc. When you withdraw, your selling your virtual chips, virtual currency, virtual bidding credits or video game character etc.

Whats the difference if your paying $100 for 1,000,000,000 virtual poker chips on Zynga facebook poker or paying $100 for 100 virtual poker stars chips, please someone tell me? It certainly isn't US currency on your Poker Stars account as much as your Zynga chips are not US currency. It becomes currency when you sell it back.... just like purchasing and cashing in / selling back physical casino cheques. They are not US currency you bought a product and if you choose you can sell them back. Has this argument been made?

Maybe FOR NOW. But as more and more banks enforce UIGEA regulations, this won't be an easy thing to do.

Yes it is actually. The majority have elected representatives who have forced these laws upon us. You need to change majority opinion in order to have your perceived rights recognized.

That's apparent - so it probably makes sense not to post ITT.

Whats the go with US banks being concerned where the funds are coming from. Are they all government agents or what. What happens if you bring in cash to deposit, do they ask where you obtained it. Tell them to mind there own business.
