Has anyone else received this, and is it genuine?

Your account requires attention

Dear [me],

We sent you an email last month informing you that we require updated identity documents to ensure your account is up-to-date. According to our records your account has not yet been validated, and in order for you to continue enjoying NETELLER’s services, we need you to submit the documents to us by November 1, 2008. If we have not received updated documentation from you by this date, your account will be temporarily suspended until it has been updated.

Check out our website for more information on why we need you to submit new identity documentation.

How to validate your account
Validating your account is simple. All you need to do is email two documents to validate@neteller.com.

Just follow these 3 easy steps and we’ll do the rest.

1. Verify your identity
Provide a digital photograph or scanned colour copy of your government–issued ID card, driving license or passport that clearly displays:

* Document number (ID number, license number, passport number), your full name and date of birth
* No black/blurred portions (all details must be in focus)
* All four corners of the document (i.e. no cropping)
* Expiry date that has not passed
* Front and back of the ID card or license

2. Verify your address
Provide one digital photograph or scanned colour copy of a paper utility bill or paper bank card/credit card statement that clearly displays:

* Your name and address
* An issue date within the last 3 months
* All four corners of the bill/statement (i.e. no cropping)

Acceptable utility bill statements include landline phone, heating, water, electricity, cable TV, internet and municipal government correspondence.

3. Email your digital photos or scans as attachments to validate@neteller.com.
You must send these items to us using the email address registered with your NETELLER account or we will be unable to process your documents. Click here to see samples of acceptable documents.

A call to their 1-800 customer service number might give some clues.

Just spoke to live chat people and they said yes they started sending them out today. I was basically told rules is rules, whatever that is suppose to mean.

I got this a while ago and replied to them saying I've already verified my account twice and will take my business elsewhere if I'm made do it yet again. They didn't bother me again about it and I've went on using my account as normal since.

Throw currency exchange fees into the mix and you have to wonder if there aren't better options out there.

I'm the UK and I opened a USD Neteller account mainly so I could transfer money between sites without currency exchange issues. I haven't reviewed the market post-UIGEA - I'd be interested to hear from non-US players on the alternatives to Neteller for inter-site transfers and for non-USD withdrawals.

I have Moneybookers in € and pay 1,80€ for a transfer to my bank. Downside is the exchange fee when your poker account currencies are in USD..

I got this email yesterday even though they didn't send me an email last month and, in any case, had to send scans of these documents to have my account verified this time last year! They don't have a clue what they are doing.

I was annoyed at having to do this (got the email a few days ago). But ****ed off they absolutely had not sent me an earlier email.

I think it's a ****ing disgrace now though given the number of people reporting here that the "earlier email" line is TOTAL BS.

I think I might just let them whistle for it.

You really sorted them out then, or perhaps as it says in the details that when it gets to November 1 and the Legislation comes into force you will no longer be able to use your account.....if i was you would not just ignore it and think it is solved.

And I agree with you. I'm certain I can trust them with that info, even though what's going on in my bank account is none of their business imo, but that might just be me.

I think what's alienating most of us is the fact, that - being their customers for quite a while - we have to provide information of this nature again, so if Neteller actually acknowledges (even if it's merely a legal thing) that the process itself is risky enough, that their customers were better off not going through it, I'd like a good reason to do it. Instead of getting BSed ("sent you an email last month", "your account has not yet been validated").

I know, isn't it outrageous? It's not like Neteller had introduced 25% transaction fees or something like that. Wait a sec ....

Well I ended up in a "live chat" session with them. I don't have a colour scanner or a decent digital camera, so I ended up emailing a couple of scuzzy camera-phone pics. Haven't heard back yet.

As if all this wasn't annoying enough, last night I tried to deposit from Neteller to Virgin Poker through "WebDollar", and got a message saying it couldn't be processed. I emailed WebDollar support and got a reply asking (you guessed it)...

o Address...
Either I've done something to make the world suddenly think I'm a drug dealer/money launderer/whatever, or these people just don't want my dollars.

I have previously jumped through their hoops on two occasions to complete the verification process as well. I haven't recieved any further emails like the ones referred to in these threads however. The question is, if our accounts have been previously verified more than once and they want to do it again, does this mean they don't trust their own verification systems of the past?

Surely verified is verified, how can that change?

By temporarily suspended they mean "You can still deposit money into your neteller account, but we won't allow you to touch it from there, sucker!"
