I double click on cake to open it up and it doesn't start. A few seconds later I get an error message that says "a problem was encountered trying to to connect to our servers. Please check your internet connection and try again. Error: failed to get updateinfo" and I can click on abort or retry. If I click on retry I get the same error message, if I hit abort and try to open it up again, it says one instance of the application is allowed. Also it shows up in windows task manager under services but won't actually start.

Has this happened to anyone? How do I fix it? help! etc

its not usually this error but sometimes the cake software is still running on your computer. try seeing if cake.exe is listed in your process and end it or just restart.

I actually had this same exact problem yesterday. I thought it stemmed from reinstalling my dial up software (ugh, dial up. /killself) but who knows, it might have been a cake update that caused it.

What happened was in Internet Explorer, which cake uses to display pretty much everything, under tools > internet options > connections > lan settings (and the dial up connection for me) the proxy check box got checked. So when IE tried to connect through a blank proxy it would give an unable to load webpage blah blah error. Apparently cake even runs it's update connection through IE, go figure.

This took me forever to figure out since I don't use Internet Explorer and full tilt, aim, firefox, etc. all connected and functioned just fine and cake and IE even worked on a different windows user.

I have this problem too and I cant fix it. I think it is because of aol and firewall but maybe you know what my problem is. I went into aol controls and deleted the dial up setting even though i use broadband but that didnt fix any type of proxy problem that you discussed even though I dont even know if I did what you said. This is so frustrating. Funny thing is I have the same problem at another skin a little while ago but I forget which one. I cant get the ******ed UpdateInfo error message to stop.
