Bodog Poker not allowing Canadians to deposit or withdraw in USD(Their default currency)? Bodog Poker not allowing Canadians to deposit or withdraw in USD(Their default currency)?

I just recently signed up for an account at Bodog and I noticed that as a Canadian, they don't allow you to deposit in the poker room's currency which is USD -- which doesn't make sense. I'm forced to deposit in CND and apparently the payout is also in CND. My moneybookers account is in USD so I would take a conversion fee hit for both deposits and withdrawals.

I assume this would also apply for other countries since they have to deposit/withdraw in their origins currency. I talked to their live chat and this is how it is apparently.

There's a reason why most players keep their eWallets in either USD or Euro Currency. This issue made me not deposit and I figure this would also deter others from depositing as well. What's worse is I can't even seem to find their conversion rate for the day.

Did I mention that their poker room's currency is US friggin D!?

Ugh, seriously? I signed up there a couple weeks ago to get RB before the deadline, but haven't played there yet. Terrible policy, and it will probably keep me away just like their lack of eWalets did previously.

I let the deadline pass, looks like it might be good thing (I don't like rooms that rip off my fellow players).

Is this still true? So as an american that will play on bodog in canada, i will be hit with withdrawal fees since the check or wire is in cad and not usd?

I googled this thread about it and wanted to know this.

So if my MB is USD... then i cannot deposit into bodog since it only accepts CAD? Or I can but i would be hit with a currency exchange fee everytime and how much? Just want to deposit 1k there.

If I have funds on bodog in CAD, does that mean check is the only way to withdraw? I read there is a 2.49% currency fee everytime if you withdraw from moneybookers. So does that mean i can withdraw from bodog CAD to moneybookers USD but i would get hit with a 2.49% currency fee everytime?

So if i want to withdraw 1000 CAD from bodog to moneybooker, it would cost about 24.90 cad?

Can someone explain the currency exchange fee everytime you buyin and cashout while on bodog?

^^ irrelevant because you can't use moneybookers on bodog anymore

they offer cheque, bank wire, and bank transfer for payout

So any method for cashout has to be in CAD then ?

How do you get money into bodog then without moneybookers? I don't have a debit/credit card here. MY BMO bank card does have interac in the back of it... i guess interac transfer is the only way? Isn't the limit pretty small for it?

pretty sure it's in cad, yeah.

probably just call them, they have a phone number and know their own policies better than forum randoms. might be able to help you move larger amounts.

I just called today to inquire about this since I wanted to take advantage of the 100% match bonus up to $1000 on your first deposit. then I got hit by some crappy facts:

- The site keeps all your funds in CAD.

- Unlike Pokerstars you can't deposit in CAD and instantly convert to USD to take advantage of the $600 USD first time bonus. Therefore the bonus is only $1000 CAD,

- with current exchange rates that a loss of approx $250 CAD

- There is no way around this according to the poker specialist I spoke to on the phone.

- All cash games and tournaments are in USD on the site, so every time you register a tournament or sit a cash game Bodog converts your CAD fund to USD.

- The poker specialist confirmed over the phone that they do not take a cut or VIG when performing the exchange, although I would be much more comfortable if I could find this somewhere in writing on their website but there is ZERO mention of it.

I think We can all agree that this is not an ideal, especially with the volatility of the CAD dollar these days. It would be much better to keep your balance in USD like poker stars lets you do.

So if you play on bodog beware that you BR might be ever shrinking as the CAD $ tanks worldwide.

And beware that on all sites that only let you keep your money in USD and not CAD, your BR might be ever-shrinking if the USD starts tanking worldwide. Or just versus the CAD.

If your BR is in CAD and you cashout in CAD, you're not losing value as the exchange rate changes. But you're right about losing value with the First Deposit bonus which sucks.

I'm also interested in playing on Bodog as a Canadian. Obviously the games are in USD, but when you sit at a table and when you leave, is the same exchange rate used for both conversions (at the start and end of the session)?

From what the nice lady at bodog told me on the telephone, no it would be current market rates at that time... so technically if you play a long session / tournament you are also playing the money market for the currencies during that time, or can someone confirm otherwise?

Someone in another thread told me that they use a rate that is reset daily. I'm not sure if that's true though. I imagine the Bodog CSR you spoke to would know better. That's a pretty huge drawback... But at least they're not taking a spread on each conversion. That would be horrible.

I e-mailed them regarding how the exchange rate changes and this was their response:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting Bodog Poker Customer Service.

Foreign Exchange Rates change only once per day. New rates go into effect each night at 12:00a PST. It'll match the current market rate.
So it looks like unless you are playing a session that spans over midnight PST, the USD -> CAD and CAD ->USD conversions will use the same rate which is good.

I just tested it an played calculated the conversion cost and its just shy of 1% markup on current Xe.com rates, so it looks they they actually do mark it up unless I am missing something.

for example:

they are charging me 125.68CAD for 100USD to sit at a cash game

and when I look at xe.com right now it should be costing me 124.47 CAD

not good news unless 1.2568 is a standard mid market rate they are getting somewhere, I can't find it don't know everything about exchange rates.. pokerstars uses whatever the XE.com rate is though and it changes as it does. Anyone have any more info on this?

Did you convert the money back the other way?

What rate they use is irrelevant, as long as they use the same rate in both directions.
