If you win a satellite entry into one of these, can you unregister and take the W$?

No.

This is the same policy as all "live" tournaments provided through PokerStars (except WSOP)

Sounds like a waste of a trip, if you value your time sufficiently, for like a $2K USD tournament. Since I imagine flights are going to be $1200+ if you are in the US/Canada. Is it worth being jetlagged and losing 2 full days for <$800 in tournament equity (less any additional expenses in Auckland)? Maybe, but very marginal if so, I think I'd stay home if I won this.

You make a very good point. I'm close to Toronto, and the cheapest flight is $1800, and seeing how the tourney is only a $2250 buy in and they give me $1750 I'm not exactly getting great value. And the flight with transfer is like 20hrs going their and 24 coming back. But I am going to go as it is a new experience and a new place to visit. I really enjoy these smaller tourneys as you get to meet and know a lot of nice people. The wsop for me was not that fun because everyone is scattered and doing different things so its tough to get to know new people. Is anyone from here going to Auckland?

Think of it as a freerolling a holiday, not just a poker tournament. NZ is meant to have some quite good touristy stuff so I'm sure you'll have a good time (and hopefully win some money while you're at it).

Fair enough, that's a sensible reason to go, and NZ is pretty cool I have heard. Hope you have fun.

I still think this tourney is terrible value for pretty much anyone, but I could see playing if I had already won a package and wanted a holiday and to explore NZ. Hope you have a kick-ass time.

Thanks...i read up on the casino side of Auckland and it's supposed to have lots of fish....but the rake is insanely high. But I'm sure I'll have a good time and my buddy from support at Stars said he might fly over from Sydney so I'm looking forward to it.
