[888poker] what is a "half-price buy-in sale" and how does it affect EV or ROI? [888poker] what is a "half-price buy-in sale" and how does it affect EV or ROI?

I got this email promotion:

which says some special buy-ins are half-price this week for the same gtd. But what does this mean in practice? I guess they wouldn't do this if they didn't expect to get more than twice as many applicants (why lose money), so is this something that doesn't actually affect EV or ROI but rather is just essentially a way of saying they are basically doubling the gtd prize pool due to expecting more than twice as many players?

Or is there some actual effect on EV or ROI ?

Here are the actual sale tournaments:

for example what would usually be a $22 bi for a $10k gtd is $11. What is usually a $110 bi for a $100k gtd is $55. There are Progressive Knockouts, an $8k PKO Rumble $22 costs just $11 ($5 + $5 + $1) but I'm guessing they set the bounty at $5 not $10 is it would be with $22.

So is this "sale" anything other than a way of saying that they expect to have more than twice as many players as usual? (They usually go over their gtd prize pool).

Does it have any affect on EV or ROI - other than, of course, attractive many more casual players who are attracted by the large prize pool?

It's really not doing anything. Maybe increase ROI a bit since there will be more casual player and increase variance quite a lot.

The only real appeal to it is if you couldn't afford the original buy-in now maybe you can try your luck. It's kind of a silly promotion imo

This is really just confirmation that 888 Poker are nothing more than greasy angle shooters.

They call it 50% off tourneys, but in reality all this means is that temporarily a $100,000 guarantee that was $100 and 1000+ people joined, now will be for $50 and 2000+ people will join.

Don't leave your money with these grease balls, doing deceptive things like this is a clear sign not to trust them with your money.
