Hi all,

I've been a lurker here for a while and have gone through many stages of my poker career. I basically decided that beating online poker is something that I am not capable of doing on the level that most of you do. I tilt easily, take too many shots, and don't practice good bankroll management.

So what I've decided to do is create a challenge for myself. Basically, I want to make $10 from online poker per day until I reach $1,000 in profit. So far I haven't played every day because of my work schedule/social life, but I plan on playing at least 5-6 days a week.

I would love to be able to spend the time and mold myself into a winning online poker player with the discipline, skill, and stamina to make this game into a living, but I do not think that the poker life is for me. I hope that this challenge/experiment works and that I can use this game that I have spent a lot of time learning to make a few extra bucks and have some fun.

Thanks for reading!

lol...I should probably do something like this. I have the worst bankroll management of all time. I'm talking a positive ROI ~ 12% with profits steadily decreasing however. That's bad bankroll management for ya.

Poker doesn't work in a way that you can make X per day. Even the best player in the world has losing days. I don't think you understand how variance works.

Some people make blogs, I have too in the past and never complete them. Its because along your way in the challenge something happens that pushes you off your track.

So my advice I want to give to you is to learn more about bankroll managament and what I see happening a lot in challenges like these is when a player goes on a winning streak they have a bankroll large enough to move to the next higher stake. But the short term winning streak is not consistent long-term results. And so when they move up to that next higher level they run into a short term losing streak (to balance out their previous win streak) and face larger losses due to having moved up too soon.

So advice I want to give to you is to put in a certain amount of hands or games each week for at least 2 weeks at a specific level before moving to the next. Unless you'll be staying at the same level it would be wise to know if you're capable of consistently earning $10 a day at that level. For example 1c/2c and 2c/5c (2NL and 5NL) you may not receive that much. You may make $14 one day, and $11 the next it seems at that point its profitable and consistent until you lose $5 on the third day and break even on the fourth. Overall thats $20 in 4 days which is a more long-term expectation. So put in as many hands as you can at the level you're playing and at 50k hands, you'll have an idea of how much you make every 100 hands you play. Or if you play $5 heads-up for example youd want to win 60% of you matches playing 20 games each day which would give you $15 daily. Not everybody can win 60% heads-up matches, and not everybody can put in 20 matches a day. So put in a good amount of time first to give yourself an estimate. Dont give up if you have a losing streak its all apart of the game which is the main reason a lot of players dont finish their blog challenge.

Other than that blogging will be a big help for you, it keeps you focused and reminds yourself you're playing for something. You can certainly do this. If you have any questions as I know a lot of players would like somebody to talk poker with to get stuff off their shoulders, give me a pm. GL ===

Do I expect to win 100 days in a row? No, but that is the goal that I'll be trying to hit. I'm not trying to put in 2-4 hours a day, I'm looking to play for an hour tops per day. Poker is something that I think I could make good money at if given the proper time and level of commitment. I don't have either right now, my job is very stressful right now and I have a lot of other things that I want to spend the little free time that I have on, like being with friends and family, exercising, getting out on the golf course or disc golf course, etc.

Today I played for about an hour before I was up $10.

I know that this is a little unorthodox and different than the poker careers that many of you (and I applaud all of you who consistently take my money) are doing on a day to day basis, but this is something that I think will be fun and could hopefully make me some money in the process.

Thanks for checking it out guys, I'll do my best to keep going with this and hopefully complete the challenge.

I remember when I used to make goals like this and think I could do it for a living.

Lets put it this way, until you fully understand the game, you won't be able to make a living off of it. Even then, it's unlikely.

I'm not trying to make a living off of the game. I had those pipe dreams and have realized that this is not a game that I can do for a living without a lot more time, experience, and motivation. This little challenge is for extra income and to try and teach myself some discipline. I know that I will never be a poker pro, but that doesn't mean I can't experiment and find ways to supplement my income with the game.

I think the goal of making $10 a day is misguided and naive.

If you want to get off on the right foot with your personal challenge then set an achievable target. The reason I say this is that if you suddenly lose the first few sessions (or even a few sessions down the line) then your confidence will take a hit and this will have an adverse affect on the challenge (and potentially your future 'poker career'). As others have mentioned, you can't guarantee a winning session no matter your skill level -- the top players can go months without winning!

If I was doing a challenge I would set either of the following targets:

1) I will play x number of hands a day/ week/ month.
2) I will play x number of hours a day/ week/ month.

Use these targets and try to maintain a decent winrate for the level you're playing.

Agree with the guy above me about going for hands/day vs. profit/day, but w/e dude it's your money, if this is what you want to do go for it.

Are you going to have a stop loss?

GL OP I hope it works, I just think you're setting yourself up for failure with this kind of goal.

I haven't decided on one. I won't be jumping up limits chasing losses (one of my many flaws) so I'm hoping that I'm hoping that any extra money I make before I stop for the day (making $14 instead of $10) will make up for the bad days that I can't be the ship upright.

having losing sessions, losing days, losing weeks etc is simply part of poker. Don't try to hide from that fact and suppress it. Just try to play your best and make the most money. Part of being a winning player is to realize that after you are down a bunch you are not necessarily playing your A game and quitting is by far the best thing you can do.

Kiros, I read the posts on your blog and I can assess that you're totally clueless. It sounds like you haven't LEARNED anything about your "thousand dollar steam losses". Your not teaching yourself discipline by embarking on this ridiculous challenge. You're setting yourself up for another "steam-->move up limits-->donk away roll". "You have the discipline to fold KQ when you reached your $10 a day limit". My god.

What's going to happen when you cap pre-flop with AA and hit top set against an open-ended flush draw. The draw makes it and you lose $25 in the hand. What are you going to do? Keep playing steamed up? No, you're going to move up to $2/$4 and try to recoup your losses and pray for the best.

Many players have donked away huge rolls from steaming and moving up the limits or whatever reason. You have to LEARN from your mistakes and try to actually LEARN the game. It sounds to me like you have neither the time, nor the patience. You're just trying another ridiculous scheme that are you delusional enough to believe will work 100 more times lmao.

Like others have said. Poker blogs are nice helpful diaries, but you have to learn what VARIANCE is. You set yourself "hands per week/month, ROI to achieve in a month etc" goals. Not "I'm going to try to make $10 a day" goals. You think that's how pros think?? "I'm going to make $1000 a day for a year and leave the table when I hit" C'mon man, get real. Save yourself the embarrassment. I guess when your blog stops being updated two weeks from now I can safely assume your fate.

lmao, I came back to this thread cause it crossed my mind again as I was watching HSP. This has got to be one of the all-time dumbest threads I've seen in a while. I guess I just don't understand how you can donk off thousands and still be totally clueless on how the game of poker works. I guess that's why there's still money to be made online. I actually laughed out loud at the "I had the discipline to fold QK after I reached my $10 limit".

Seriously, why don't you try putting $10 aside online and try to win a $1 a day until you get to $100 playing 1c/2c. Write down on how long it's going to take you to bust your whole $10 roll. Here's my advice:

Delete your blog.
Read Swayne's Advanced Degree in Hold'Em if FL is what you play.
Read it again.
Read SOMETHING on bankroll management.
Set up some realistic goals.
Otherwise:
Quit poker forever.

But I know you're probably too dumb to heed that advice because your $10 scheme worked 6 days in a row (lmao) so you think, "hey it worked days 1-6. HOW CAN IT NOT WORK for another 94????"

OMFG I had no clue you were doing this at 1/2 with $100 in your online acct, just assumed you were playing 10NL and going to try to end up a BI a day. Which granted is still pretty ridiculous, but nowhere close to what you are actually doing. Mind blown.

Edit: Originally thought it was 200NL and couldn't understand why you would even try this. See now that you are a limit player. Regardless, I still don't think playing $1/$2 LHE with a $100 BR is wise.
