what good is this trash? it's a spoiler that he's there in november ... then when the broadcast begins.. you hear norman chad like"my man phil ivey BETTER be there in november.." lol i find it funny thats all

ps- norman chad is the nuts for calling out iveys A10 hand that hand + lol@ ivey dumping the spadeflush when the dude had Aces only

The point of the commercial is to say that poker isn't all luck and Ivey will/is the proof.
Yes it's a spoiler for the average viewer and that kinda sucks for them.

It's just Ivey taking the game to a new level imo.

Norman Chad watches the coverage before he commentates on them

And there is really no tooth fairy!

Did you actually believe for one minute that poker commentary was done "on the fly"?

Difference between WSOP and WPT coverage, IMHO, is that while you may see WPT commentators on set for start and finish, and you never see WSOP commentators on set, both are finished by adding running commentary in studio weeks after the action when raw footage has been edited down to a usable commodity.

Makes sense to do it this way for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that "back editing" allows for more footage in earlier segments of players who will make the final couple of tables, since the earlier segments are edited after the whole event is shot and over. Much more interesting than if you only first saw Darvin Moon, Akkenhead, Schaffel, etc., in the final six or eight episodes of the 30 total.

The give-away is when one of the voice announces a player's hole cards a split second before they are revealed on camera, or when the commentary continues uninterrupted but a player has suddenly added/lost a million chips without explanation.

Actually, Norm has been seen sitting in the audience watching a table at the WSOP on at least one occasion in the past. It was pretty funny to listen to him announcing while watching him sitting by himself on the rail.

The main reason WPT/WSOP commentary isn't live is because the announcers aren't allowed to see the cards live:

Quote:
The show's hosts Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten give the impression that all of their commentary is recorded live as the tournament happens, and they have occasionally interacted with the players during the game. However, their comments about hole cards are recorded after the tournament takes place because gaming regulations prohibit them from observing a live feed of the "hole card cameras" while on the set. Consequently, the broadcast audio is a mix of the live recording, and commentary recorded in post-production.

Doing it live would also be a massive waste of effort. What's the point of commenting on every hand when only a fraction of them would make it on TV?
