I was playing in London a 1/2 game and there was a hand where preflop UTG raises to £15 CO and BTN both call then UTG bets £20 CO folds and BTN calls then they both check the rest of the way and UTG shows he flopped the nuts I asked isnt this collusion and UTG says "his my brother im not going to bet against him" I had already played for 18 hours at this point so I just let it go should I have called the floor or should the dealer of done something?

Maybe UTG was really hoping to check-raise if/when the button were to bet.

I can't speak about what the norms in England are. My experience here is that most casual players don't really care about this sort of thing especially when there family members are involved. As a result of that if you complain to the floor about it there is a good chance they won;t care either.

However it is possible that they will tell them they can;t play in the same game.

Otherwise, get up and leave.

Couple of this type of thread popping up this week. This is not unusual and really shouldn't be worried about. There was no 'unusual' betting pattern to get the other opponent to fold as that is what you need to look for in a collusion event.

There is no 'rule' in cash games that the a player 'must' bet the nuts ... only in a tournament and only when they are last to act. This case is neither of those conditions.

When I see a couple of guys who may be working together I just try to use it against them to gain both of their chips, not complain about it and miss out on the opportunity. We all can feel your pain, especially after 18 hours, but this one is one to walk off and move on from. GL

Just to clarify, some rooms do in fact apply the rule about betting the nuts when last to actto cash games as well as tourneys.

I agree that this type of softplay is technically against the rules but also very common and difficult to stop. We often get a pair of tourists from overseas vacationing together who will check it down if heads up. But the key point is that in those cases they really just play straight forward, and if they happen to find themselves heads up, then check. Rather then having a collusive plan to drive out other players deliberately.

I disagree with the posters who think the only issue is whether they are betting to drive out opponents.

If they know in advance that the other partner will not bet into them if they end up heads up, then it creates adynamic which can effect play beyond just whether they are whipsawing you to drive you out. A player who knows that he will not have to face additional bets later if you fold may make a bet or call a bet he otherwise wouldn;t make or call. Now that may benefit you in some spots but it does alter the play of the game whether or not they are trying to drive you out of the pot.
