Villain doesnt let you concentrate before your decision? Villain doesnt let you concentrate before your decision?

Hi all.

Had a hand in which I had to think things through and villain was all in.

Villain was saying "Daves not calling... Daves not calling" (kept repeating) And it was actually really putting me off haha and I couldnt concentrate on my thought process as he kept on saying it.

One thing I have to make clear here though... Villain is a good friend and so was probably winding me up and also knew how to distract me!

But still.. My question is - what if this happens in a casino and you cant think because villain keeps talking and distracting you? Then, worse case scenario, if Clock is then called and at this point youve barely even thought the hand through. What happens in this situation? Can you basically say youve not had the opportunity as villain keeps trying to put you off?

(though admittedly in this specific hand.. i think it was pretty obvious villain was huge and wanted a call! Making the fold easier. But still.. good players would be capable of this move on a bluff too)

Thanks

"could you kindly shut the **** up? thanks"

I'd say, "Whenever you stop talking I'll start thinking about my action." And then if/when someone calls the floor or the clock, I'd tell the floor what was going on. Even if the floor starts the countdown, one minute is plenty of time for you to think through just about any hand.

unfortunately, no. The floor is not going to give you more time because you couldn't concentrate. Once he comes over, a good floor will ask the dealer if you had a reasonable amount of time, and if she says yes, he starts the clock (and I say "good" because I recently heard about a floor coming over and starting the clock without asking the dealer when it was clearly too early).

This is why you should get used to blocking people out. Just don't look at him and think about his actions in the hand.

Yeah, it sounds like it might take you requesting some quiet time yourself. I'm either telling the other player to quiet down, or asking the dealer to do so.

If the floor gets called, I'm hopeful that you get a quiet minute, but understand that's not a guarantee.

I can tune everything out so I'd have no problem in these situations.

I suppose you can politely ask him to refrain from his babble because you'd like to have a moment to think in peace...but isn't that the reason why he's babbling in the first place?

*shrug*

I've seen this on a floor/clock call before. Player in the 7 called clock on the 8 and proceeded to scream at him to make a decision. I indicated that A)the 60 seconds wouldn't begin until he was quiet, and would reset and B)that this was the last time I was coming over to the table for his antics

Spoiler:
Clock call only took about 45 seconds (all behaved), I didn't hear another peep from 7 all night.

I usually want people talking to me and I'm more concerned about the opposite problem when I try to get villain to talk, and villain remains silent. People have given off tells/info by talking to me and would have been better off saying nothing.

Do whatever you do all those other times in life that you need to concentrate.

What do you do at work when you need to get a report to your boss in 30 minutes and your coworker is yelling at her teenage daughter on the phone?

What do you do when you're trying to read directions on how to purchase a subway ticket and some dude behind you is telling you how much of a hurry he's in?

Watching a movie with your parents and they keep asking you, "What did he say?" and my personal favorite, "What did she say while I was asking you what he said?"

Being able to politely tell people to shut the **** up is a good life skill to have.

So you work at a casino?

Is this the ruling at most casinos? So long as you can get 1 clear minute to think thats ok. Pretty much like online then really.

But id be pissed if the casino still allow them to talk and distract after clock has been called

1. It only disturbs me if I let it. Why pay attention to drivel? A mentioned above, maybe mentally check to see if it is a tell.

2. If the Floor doesn't enforce silence during your 60 second countdown, I would have a serious discussion with him and his supervisor after the hand.

3. The only time noise makes it impossible for me to concentrate is during the Dragon Dance on Chinese New Year.
