Hey Jaconda....Is the Venetian right next door to IP? I am only 22 so it would be my first trip to Vegas to play poker, and looking for a hotel on the cheaper side. I am not to picky, I don't need all the luxuries of a really expensive room. However, based on your trip report, and other people I have talked to the Venetian seems to be the place to be. I am from the east coast and looking to get out there either this month, or next month. So thanks for the info.

IP is next to Casino Royale, which is next to the Venetian. It's about a 7 minute walk or so. In vegas, "next door" is a slightly relative term, as next door to a huge casino like the Venetian or the Mirage (to name 2 of many) can still be a good quarter mile away. If you're looking to travel cheap, but still safe, I highly recommend IP. It's cheap, but unlike some of the places I've seen (like Circus Circus or Casino Royale) I never felt like I could be mugged at any moment. And it's close to the Venetian, Caesar's, and the Mirage, among others.

Jaconda is right in that next door is a relative term in Vegas. For a cheap place to sleep, **** and shower in a great location IP is the ticket. Bring comfortable walking shoes and you are all set.

Did you happen to play at the Venetian over 4th of July weekend this year? I remember running into a girl there that was pretty chatty playing 2/5.

To be fair, OP was very good at making the table more friendly when I played with her. At one point a not so great player made a donkey play and sucked out. OP defended the guy and encouraged general donkiness.

I have to say in my time playing at the Venetian I didn't have very good 1/2 tables. For instance the night I played with you I don't remember any uber-fishes and there were 3 or 4 fairly tight players. Even the bad players weren't that bad for 1/2.

I stayed at the Mirage 5 nights for $340 (including $20 upgrade to my nicer room). When did you book your room?

The table we were at together was pretty tight, you're right. There was the Brit (nit), his friend next to him (nit), Tony (not a nit, but too distracted by various complaints to actually play hands), me (not a nit, but mad awesome at poker and not to be trifled with ), a few random donkeys, and you (again, not to be trifled with. You're crazy! To be honest, I don't even remember what you did to earn that nickname, I just remember that we all called you the Crazy Canook).

Seriously? That's kind of ridiculous. I booked in the middle of October. Did you get some free nights or something? Mirage is usually over $100 per night.



I'll be going back to Vegas come December. I'm going to try to do a long trip - I think I'll be there Dec 24 or so until Jan 5th, when I'm going to the PCA, and then back to vegas on the 10th and leaving around the 15 or so. Should be a good trip - I might post some reports of that too, depending on if anything interesting happens.

I don't think I did anything, although it might have been when I tried to bluff the Brit on the AA5 flop with my pocket sixes, and then hit my 6 on the turn.


It was Sunday - Friday and I booked the first or second week of November. I didn't have any comps or anything so I think I just got lucky.

Yeah, there was that. There was also the hand where you had AQ vs his AK and all those 8's came out. He was bitching about those two hands all the way back up to the room after. I think it was those two hands that did it.

Maybe I'll go play NL for a bit just to check this loud poker playing girl out a bit (since I'd already planned my new years vegas trip). Be warned I will be the donkey at the table because I suck at NL.
