i have tried to search this topic and have found a Few things but not exactly what i am looking for. Im not sure if this is the right forum. Currently i am a poker dealer in Lake Tahoe and my gf is a cocktail waitress. I have been a dealer for over 2 years and dealt the 2007 wsop. Me and a few of my buddies stayed the length of the series and had a pretty good time. Me and my gf were considering moving down there around the start of the wsop. My main ? would be how hard do you think it will be for me to get a job dealing down there as well as my gf getting a job. i would consider myself better then 95% of every dealer i have seen and can easily pass an audition in any variation of poker. My gf has 3 years exp. and is wondering how hard it will be for her to find a job. We figured we can go down there and i will deal the series and we will look for jobs prior and during the wsop. Also i was there for 3 months and liked vegas. How is it living there full time year round? Thanks for any input and advice.

There have been many posts about this. There is a huge poker dealer glut in Vegas. Hundreds of people applying for each part-time position that opens. And the WSOP brings in a few hundred more who all have the same idea that you do--deal the series and hope someone will hire them afterwards. There just aren't many jobs available, and if you somehow manage to snag one it will probably be part-time.

There's nothing wrong with your plan to come down for the series and apply for jobs. Just don't move out until you have the job in hand.

As well, not all the strip dealers are doing real well. I chatted recently with a fulltime strip poker dealer who claims he's making so little he now legally qualifies for food stamps, and he's thinking about applying. They have so many extra fulltime dealers that they aren't getting many downs in. As he said this he looked up and pointed at the 5 dealers just standing around the desk, all earning their minimum wage waiting for a chance to deal a couple tourney downs.

The grass only looks greener.
