More often than not in this forum, we tend to rant about what we don't like or wish was different or better at our card rooms. I've been thinking lately about how much I appreciate the Commerce Club and what it provides for our poker community.

Here is a list of my favorite things about the Commerce's 5/10 NL section and how it's managed:

1) It's a superbly run section with highly competent floormen (and ladies) that know the game, rules, and house policies.
2) They are aggressive about starting new games. They usually start a new game when the waiting list grows to 6 or 7 players. This is good for the casino and the players, with more cards in the air and more rake for the house.
3) The staff hustles the floor to facilitate all table changes and accommodates every player, keeping good track of who wants what and in proper waiting list order. With at times as many as 10 games going in the $500 cap game, you are a tool not to exploit a good table selection to suit your game.
4) The comped food is of excellent quality and you can't possible complain about the variety of selection. They go far out of their way to please in this department.
5) The cards are of high quality and never do you see worn down decks.

And the floorman as well as the Dealers speak very clear and defined English...

Oh please the player are so abusive to the dealers the floor will do nothing about this. It has the seediest most degenerate players in the world. It is the sewer of poker…

I love Commerce.

That said I was recently in CA (June) and was playing 20/40 LHE @ Commerce and they had just switched to green and brown colored decks.

Something was wrong with the green decks. The pattern had bled and there were white striations (not quite stripes) clearly visible on many cards. The first night this happened, maybe 5 or 6 decks were impounded. By the end of it we had convinced the Floor to canabalize the decks to make one good one out of several bad ones.

Things got so bad that they suspended "setups". Truly a momentous occasion.

Best poker room in America by far. Best action. Dealers take more **** than should be humanly possible, the food is free (although it sucks), and the players are the biggest donks in the world.

That's why you leave your last $1 chip on your cards when you shove all in, and tell them it doesn't play.

This comment has no credibility what so ever. How many card rooms have you played in that you could possibly rank the Commerce to the rock bottom as the sewer of poker? The Commerce would make the top 3 list as a cash game venue of 90% of all world class live cash game players.

Why not cap the 1-2 at 100, 2-3 at 200 and 2-5 at 300 this would be good imo.

"The comped food is of excellent quality." Let's try and keep it believable please, your post is funnier that way.

Tried that once but some Asian Lady starting shrieking that it was hers as well, had to give it up.

The last 4 weeks I've visited Bellagio, Venetian, Commerce and Oceans 11.

Worst Action but best run is Oceans 11...Not even close.

Good post. Great to hear a non-whining, positive post. Much better than the typical "I didn't protect my hand, used bad manners and terrible ettiquette, acted like a jerk and now that I've lost a pot I'm gonna whine all day on B&M" post.

Commerce was great when I was there. Admittedly I'm not the expert on commerce, but the two days I was there I was very impressed with the level of service by the staff, overall quality of dealers, and the food. Hustler was even better.

When you contrast LA poker (or what of it I have experienced) to vegas poker, it makes you want to bring a barf bag for when you get OFF the plane in vegas.

Commerce was great tho. Except that one guy at the cage, I had a cartman shirt on, and he was a kenny fan. Grrr....

Since Oceans is pretty much the only room I play at with any regularity in the recent past I can't speak to the action part, but O11 is a very well-run card room.

LOL, Being that I am a crappy player and somewhat of a degenerate, I always leave acouple of bucks under the floormat of my drivers side seat for this purpose.

ps, I will be moving to LA area in a couple of weeks and will be looking for recreational games.

I'm always surprised at how critical so many people are about the food. What are people's expectations, that they should be lavished with aged beef and live Maine lobster flown in just for you?

The food is a great value for such a venue as a card club, whether comp'ed or not. Any diner-style of meal is certainly on par or better than what you would get at say Denny's. If it's as good or better than Denny's, you are being unreasonable with your expectations - IT'S A CARD CLUB! (for crying out loud). The Asian meals are on par or better than most corner restaurants imo.

If you order steak, don't expect Morton's. If you order Asian, don't expect P.F. Chang's. If you order a sandwich, don't expect a New York deli. If you think the food sucks, your expectations are totally unreasonable, IMHO.

It's a freaking card club, for heaven's sake, not Spago's.

The people who are critical are the people who have eaten there 10+ times. Sure its good at first, but it gets old REAL quick. I feel bad for the people that live there and basically only eat off the commerce menu.

If you are whining about comp food then maybe you should eat elsewhere or have your mommy bring it to you.
